Our highest calling is service to others. It is love. And love is not merely a feeling. It is a verb. It is found in the doing, in the serving, in the sacrifice, in the grace we extend and the gifts we give. Patriotism is love of country. But you cannot truly love your country if you do not love your fellow countrymen and women. And to love them is to serve them. Regardless of party, religion, race, wealth, or status and especially if they can do nothing for you in return. To love thy neighbor, actively, relentlessly, indiscriminately, and courageously, is not just the calling of faith. It is the highest expression of patriotism. And I believe it is one of the greatest purposes of life.

I would not want us to approach a meeting of the three leaders – Ukraine, the United States, and Russia – having lifted all sanctions on the Russian Federation. This is an important point. Sanctions were imposed for aggression, not for an opportunity to have a chat. So if we say that this is the end of the war, there is a certain order for lifting sanctions. I told the American delegation this because I have had this feeling for quite a long time: when we talk about Russia’s loyalty, we should not buy it at such a price. Because without sanctions, we could find ourselves in a trilateral dialogue where we still do not know what will happen next, but the sanctions have already been lifted. And who will have the strength we had at the beginning of the war to impose all those sanctions again? To bring people together in such a way that we could secure more than 20 sanctions packages around the world. That is why I am very cautious about this. I do not want us to find ourselves at a meeting with Putin without tools – without sanctions, without money, or without frozen assets. Because then, as Mr. Trump said, we really would not have too many cards in our deck. From an interview with Alla Mazur for TSN Week on 1+1, as part of the United News telethon. (3/5)

The core of this nebula is crazy This object is also deceptively easy to take a photo of. I’ve caught it with just my cell phone, no telescope (although this was taken with my biggest scope)
I'm pleased to reveal my 150 megapixel photo of the Lagoon nebula, captured with a 17' telescope over several weeks this past summer. Presented here in 4k- Load the full image to see thousands of stars! The fine art print is also now available here: cosmicbackground.io/pages/nu…

“Russia invaded Ukraine, committed atrocities in the territories it occupied, and when it failed to force the government to fall or achieve its aims on the battlefield, began targeting civilians, seeking to terrorize the population into accepting Russian domination. The first Trump Administration shook off the Obama Administration’s reticence to assist and admirably sent both weapons and military trainers to help Ukraine.  After the full-scale invasion in 2022, the Biden Administration orchestrated a herculean international effort to assist Ukraine, which the Trump Administration has abandoned.”-@KoriSchake @AEI aei.org/foreign-and-defense-…

TRUMP on HIGH GAS PRICES: We’re making money like we’ve never made before. They’ll say: President Trump is bragging about all the money they're making while people are suffering at the pump. I don’t give a damn. We’re making a freaking fortune.

Republicans control the House. Republicans control the Senate. Republicans control the White House. Republicans control the Supreme Court. Republicans control the DOJ. This is what they did with two years in control: trump gets: - Gold all over the Oval Office - BILLIONS in crypto for himself - $400 million dollar Qatari bribe jet - Millions in media and tech settlements - Gold bars and diamond rings for tariff relief - BILLIONS in Pentagon contracts for his sons - $100,000 per month per person for insider info - $600 million dollar ballroom at taxpayer expense YOU GET: - A war in Iran - Higher gas prices - Higher utility prices - Higher grocery prices - Higher housing prices - Higher healthcare costs - 21 dead American soldiers - loss of trust from allies around the globe - ICE thugs abusing our friends and neighbors Now they want TWO MORE YEARS in office, While they actively try to STEAL your vote. WE ARE NOT POWERLESS. Your vote can change this.

OBAMA: He pulled out of the JCPOA, starts this war—Seven months later, six months after they declared victory, how's that war going?  Our allies and our bases have been attacked. Americans have been killed. Hundreds of Americans have been wounded. We have run down our stock of missiles. And Iran now has veto power over the strait of hormuz, where oil goes through to the world market.  This is the reason why the price of oil is up. Nobody disputes that. This is the reason the price of diesel is up. This is the reason why the price of just about everything is up. Meanwhile, you got the defense secretary who's squarely focused on important matters: the jawlines and testosterone levels of our troops.  These are not serious people. And the problem is you end up having to pay the price for their lack of seriousness.

Stand for others. Defend the bullied. Support those in need. Uplift when it’s hardest. Show up - especially when it matters most. This principle showed what principled leadership looks like.

We cannot truly love God unless this love overflows into love for our brothers and sisters. And we cannot truly love our neighbor except as children of the same Father who loved us first in his Son, Jesus. #GospelOfTheDay (Mt 22:34–40)

So this was my other half and I, combined age of 111 years, on the way back from our daughter's graduation at Wells Cathedral yesterday... not dressed for some impromptu lumberjacking, trying to clear a huge fallen branch blocking the only way out of a dead end road! 😲

Grey morning in Kyiv. What a joy to learn that metro trains cross the Dnipro River over ‘my’ bridge again. Yesterday, it was quite a challenge for me to get to the right bank of the city. But I met interesting people and brought rainy beauty in the pockets of my phone.

Seventy years ago, Europe and the entire world faced a very important and, in many ways, decisive crossroads, when the people of Hungary rose up for freedom and against the Soviet system. The courage and love of freedom shown by Hungarians proved remarkably strong, and they still amaze all of us in Europe. Unfortunately, the world did not make the strong decisions needed to help them at that time. This led to further decades of totalitarian rule across much of Europe, which ended only with the revolutions of the 1980s. The year 1956 could have changed a great deal. This lesson now gives us grounds to say with absolute certainty: when people show courage and love of freedom, it is worth supporting. It deserves support everywhere in the world, so that freedom grows. I thank everyone who remembers history, honors people's courage and love of freedom, and does not shy away from decisions when decisions are needed. We honor the heroes of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956!
