LOGOS GOMBE CIRCLE: FROM DISCUSSION TO COMMUNITY IMPACT Today, the @Logos_network Gombe Circle came together for an important conversation: What real problem can we tackle as a Circle and create measurable impact in our community? After a thoughtful discussion, we identified a critical issue that deserves our attention sickle cell disease and the need for genotype awareness and testing among young people. Nigeria carries one of the world's largest burdens of sickle cell disease, with a significant number of children born with the condition every year. For us, this is not just a statistic. It represents families, children, relationships and lives that can be profoundly affected. As a Circle, we have decided to take action. Over the next three months, we will be visiting five communities in Gombe to: 1.Encourage and test young people to know their genotype status. 2. Promote the importance of genotype testing before marriage. 3. Educate youths about sickle cell disease and how genotype compatibility can help reduce the risk of having children affected by sickle cell disease. 4. Create conversations around responsible decision making, health awareness and informed relationships. Our goal is simple: No young person should enter marriage without knowing their genotype. We believe that meaningful change does not always begin with massive projects. Sometimes, it starts with a conversation, a test, an informed decision and one community becoming more aware. The Logos Gombe Circle is choosing to move from talking about problems to working on problems. This is our winnable issue. This is our commitment. And over the next three months, we will take this conversation from the meeting room into our communities. Know your genotype. Understand your status. Make informed decisions.
