👀 Who will be the first one to build a desktop app with Svelte? Show it off!
✨ My new library gpuix-svelte is out! Build native desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux using Svelte and gpui, a Rust-powered graphics engine. Excited to see what you build! #svelte #native

How is the internet less private than in 2006, when the whole family shared one computer?
Back then, the internet was weird, personal, and all of ours.
So, we got your favorite meme legends back together to say it louder: What happened to the internet? 1/3

I sometimes want to give up on progressive web apps.
The obstruction by Apple, companies that only use PWAs to promote their native apps, fragmented browser support, developer ignorance, and half-baked examples that enforce the idea that web apps are inferior.
It feels like an uphill battle that never ends, and I sometimes lose motivation to fight it.
But what if this fight is not fought?
We end up without this free distribution channel called the web, and apps will only be created inside walled gardens called app stores where Apple and Google decide the rules.
Where they can extract heavy taxes and decide who gets in and who doesn't.
Sure, we can still put our apps on the web, but as long as Apple is able to kneecap web apps in such a way that there's no level playing field, will they ever be viable?
That is still a fight worth fighting, and I will continue to show what web apps are capable of with What PWA Can Do Today.
That is my motivation.
Even if certain things only work on Android or desktop. Even if Apple makes installing a PWA more cumbersome with every iOS release.
Thankfully, we have people like the Open Web Advocacy fighting the legal battles.
We, as developers, can and must show the world what web apps are capable of.
Build great freaking web apps. Even if some features are only available in Chrome or on Android or desktop.
Otherwise, the world will never know what web apps can do.
The free, open web is at stake.
🕰 One of the coolest gadgets I own are these these cheap e-ink clocks from Xiaomi. However, they are restricted to using the official Mi app and are often region locked. I built a clock sync app that allows you to set the time from any web browser! github.com/khromov/mi-LYWSD0…
🌭 Love the progress Bun is making! While others are arguing over minutiae or rewriting existing tools in Rust or some other trendy language, Bun just casually ships a ESLint/Prettier replacement. #bun #javascript

as it turns out, you can spend $168 within a few hours & get tsgo to beat the "$400k" slop rewrite in a mere (+3,905 / −298)
don't let anyone tell you engineering is solved folks, clearly throwing tokens at a problem ain't it 😀

A few days ago I talked about what a great Svelte chart library LayerChart is. And today they drop a banger update - isometric charts.
Bullish on Bun!
In the next version of Bun
`bun check` is a TypeScript type checker builtin to Bun (written in Rust)

ALT Announcement graphic for bun check, a TypeScript type checker built into Bun, with the Bun logo. A bar chart compares type checking VS Code (10,947 files). bun check: 1.75s, 2.77 GiB. tsc 7 with --checkers 16: 5.88s, 9.23 GiB. tsc 7 (typescript-go) with default settings: 12.58s, 7.73 GiB. bun check is 3x to 7x faster with 2.8x to 3.3x less memory. Linux x64, 64 threads, mean of 20 runs. Passes 100% of TypeScript's conformance tests. "Thank you, TypeScript team. bun check is a port of typescript-go."

I really wish this myth would finally die.
Svelte, Solid, Remix - so much good stuff out there, often the better option for you needs. And with AI it's really not hard to switch.

Tanstack Charts looks pretty cool but I've gotta say that for Svelte, LayerChart will remain my go-to. Battle tested, unbelievable breadth and depth, intuitive API - you should give it a try!

🚨 I've been using the SidePulse Dot for tracking agent statuses in Claude / Codex / OpenCode (by Peter Kuhar / @pkuhar ), but found the included Python-based GUI a bit heavy so I rebuilt it in Swift! Just 2MB to download! Download for free from: github.com/khromov/sidepulse… #ai
🫶 I have recently started a GitHub Sponsors profile! If you enjoy my work (and tweets) about Svelte, custom renderers, or my open source libraries like gpuix-svelte, svelte-render-scan & Mochi, please consider a donation.
