The fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has begun in Beijing. It is expected to focus on Xi Jinping’s efforts to clean house and reshape his team ahead of seeking another term in 2027, further consolidating his grip on power.
China responds to the Arunachal border issue.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said, “China has consistently and strictly abided by the relevant agreements, arrangements and important understandings reached between China and India. China conducts normal patrolling and management activities in the border areas to safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maintain stability along the border. China and India remain in communication through diplomatic and military channels.”
He urged India to work with China to implement bilateral understandings and maintain peace and tranquillity along the border.

China-India border region remains generally stable though stability does not mean absolute quiet says Hu Xijin, quoting an NDTV article on S. Jaishankar’s remarks on India-China ties.
It appears that the media and opposition pursuit sparked by a few local Indian officials has not shaken the Indian government’s basic stance of upholding the bilateral consensus and maintaining calm in the border areas. Overall, what is happening in India is internal political infighting. The China-India border region remains generally stable, though stability does not mean absolute quiet.
As long as the two countries keep their communication mechanisms in place and the Indian side continues to push for an easing of the border situation in order to consolidate the momentum of bilateral relations, the China-India border is unlikely to see any major disruption.

As Members are aware, there is a long history of frictions, transgressions and face offs in several sectors of the India-China border. This goes back to Barahoti from 1954, to Longju in 1959, to Sumdorong Chu from 1986-1995 and Depsang in 2013, amongst others. In the past, earlier Governments have agreed to a range of steps to defuse situations that have arisen at different times, including offers from our side to create de-militarized zones, limited non-patrolling zones, relocation or withdrawal of posts, disengagement of troops and dismantlement of structures. Different locations have seen different solutions being examined.

The Pentagon is reportedly developing a next-generation deep-cover spying programme to support economic warfare against China and other US competitors.
The initiative would deploy nonofficial cover officers (NOCs), who would operate undercover as businesspeople or other private-sector professionals without any apparent US government affiliation.
The programme is being overseen by Tom Rakusan, a 39-year CIA veteran and senior adviser to Deputy Defense Secretary Steve Feinberg, according to people familiar with the initiative who spoke anonymously.

Remember Galwan?
China’s PLA 77th Group Army released footage in mid-October of soldiers practising bayonet fighting in pairs, sharpening their close-combat skills through realistic, high-intensity training.
The 77th Group Army is part of China’s Western Theater Command, which oversees military operations along the India-China border.
For India, Galwan is not just a memory. It is a reminder of the brutality our soldiers faced in June 2020, when Indian troops stood their ground against Chinese forces in a bloody hand-to-hand clash.
