No one respects the no-parking sign in the land of pure and needs to be removed from the traffic manual because we park wherever we please. Just look at the audacity of the powerful; they also at times misbehave with the traffic police and aren’t even ashamed of the violation.

Firdous Cinema Chowk #Peshawar - then and now. Saw many blockbusters in the cinema as a kid in the 60s and 70s. The cinema is sadly gone replaced by a monstrous structure with an overhead bridge nearby. At times, I feel like Rip Van Winkle, an alien in my own city.

In the good old days, judges used to avoid public contact & functions. Interviews with the press or press talks were never heard of. Now it’s the other way around. They are in close competition with the politicians for more & more publicity. Certainly, times have changed.

As a desert dweller, nothing hurts me more than seeing a precious resource like water wasted. I’ve seen animals and people drink from the same ponds, while others travel miles to fetch water. Wasting it by washing cars, watering lawns, or leaving taps running unnecessarily is criminal.

A job or your position may make you well known, but it is your nature, character, values, and the way you raise your children that truly make you a noble person. Positions and titles fade with retirement, and public recognition eventually disappears. But the values you instil in your children and the generations that follow keep your name and legacy alive long after you are gone.

Illegal housing schemes flourish in this country while the relevant authorities look the other way. They wake up only after people have invested and lost billions of rupees of their hard-earned money. The same applies to encroachments. The influential openly violate building regulations and occupy government land under the authorities’ very nose. Action comes much later, when demolitions begin. In both cases, the powerless pay the price, while the influential and well-connected escape accountability. The real question is: why do authorities act only after the damage is done, rather than prevent these violations in the first place?

Insurgency in southern KP is rooted in poor governance, chronic underdevelopment and unemployment. Allowing the Taliban to expand their influence has compounded the crisis. The way forward lies in decisive security action, dismantling militant networks, accountable governance, jobs, education and development. Guns may contain insurgency; only justice, opportunity and public trust can secure lasting peace.

As allegations against politicians increase and inflation rises, the stakes in damage suits in Pakistani politics are also rising. Now everybody is asking for billions in damages.

Cult followers typically consider their leaders divine or, at least, mandated by some supreme authority (God, fate, the forces of history, or whatever ethereal idea fits their particular world view) to change the universe. ~Kathleen Taylor

That moment when someone sitting close to you cuts his Tikka chop in such a way that oil splashes onto your new waistcoat. The irony is that he doesn't even know what harm he has done to you. 👹🥵😡

People still get shot because of their colour; people still get mistrusted because of their religion; people still get sneered at because of their gender and sexuality. Does this look like a civilised world?

The obsession with remakes of old songs has been increasing day by day. Old chartbusters that are still fresh in people’s hearts are being rehashed. While some remakes hit the right chord, others ruin the songs' true essence.

Old houses are more than bricks and walls. They hold memories of generations, laughter in courtyards, family gatherings, and voices that still seem to echo in their rooms. Time may weaken their walls, but it cannot erase the emotions they carry. A house may grow old, but the memories it holds never grow old.
