Thank you all of you; thank you for allowing me to practice my journalism as fearlessly as possible. I will miss all of you terribly. I’ll leave it at that before I go viral for crying on TV🥹😭, which wouldn’t be a bad thing after all – @YvonneOkwara's final words as she signs off from Citizen TV
We wish you all the very best in your next endeavours!

Did you know?
Burning tyres releases dangerous gases and oily soot that can penetrate deep into your lungs, posing serious health risks.
"I appreciate learning about the health dangers associated with burning tyres," says Peter Maina from the transport sector.

Air pollution is not just an environmental challenge—it is also an economic concern.
When residents of Nairobi fall ill due to exposure to air pollution, they may be unable to work or participate fully in daily activities.

This woman’s story triggers something very deep in me.
Naona picha zake nalia Tu.
I have not written anything about her since her death.
Perhaps because I have been trying to find the words.
Chemu is many of these women.
She is many of women who loved with both their hearts and our pockets.
Women who gave everything they had to the people they loved.
Women whose first instinct, when they begin to succeed, is to make sure the people they love are okay.
When you are a giver, the first beneficiaries of your success are often the people you call family.
And sometimes, painfully, those same people become the ones who break you.
The people you love can carry you to the edge of yourself.
Chemu did not simply wake up one day and decide that she wanted to die.
She was carrying a weight that had become unbearable.
The weight of betrayal.
The weight of disappointment.
The weight of loving people who did not love her with the same tenderness.
She was trying to escape pain.
And when someone is drowning in pain, they are not always thinking about tomorrow.
They are not always thinking clearly about the people they will leave behind.
Sometimes, even the people you are trying so desperately to protect become tangled in the pain you are trying to escape from.
That is what makes suicide so devastating.
It is not always about wanting life to end.
Sometimes, it is about wanting the pain to end.
And I am so sad.
So deeply sad.
Because as we continue to write about Chemu, I hope we remember the many women whose generosity becomes the very thing that destroys them.
The women who gave until there was nothing left to give.
The women who carried families, lovers, children, friends and forgot that they, too, needed somewhere safe to put their own pain.
Let us talk about suicide beyond the final act.
Let us talk about the loneliness that comes before it.
The betrayal.
The exhaustion.
The humiliation.
The feeling of being trapped inside a life that has become too heavy to carry.
And perhaps, most importantly, let us learn to notice when the people who are always saving everyone else are quietly drowning themselves.
Because sometimes the strongest-looking people are the ones desperately needing someone to say:
Put it down.
Put it down girl.
Put it down
You don't have to carry all of this alone.
😭😭😭

Those who know me personally know I DO NOT go out on Fridays.
There is a reason. 😂
A few years ago, I was drinking alone at my local in Kingeero on a Friday night.
At around 2 a.m., I decided I had donated enough money to the bar and it was time to go home.
Problem: no matatus.
Then it started raining heavily.
So there I was, drunk, wet and standing by the road trying to hitch a ride.
After a few minutes, I waved at an approaching Toyota Prado.
To my surprise, it stopped right beside me.
God is good. 🙏🏾
I opened the passenger door, jumped in and said, “Asante sana boss.”
The Prado started moving.
As I reached for the safety belt, I turned to introduce myself to the driver…
THERE WAS NOBODY THERE.
😭😭😭
No driver.
No passenger.
Just me inside a Prado moving through Kingeero at 2 a.m. in the rain.
At this point, alcohol left my bloodstream immediately.
I wanted to jump out, but the car was moving and I wasn’t ready to meet God through a road accident.
Then we approached a bend.
Suddenly…
A HAND CAME THROUGH THE DRIVER’S WINDOW AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL.
😭😭😭😭
I nearly died.
A few minutes later, another bend.
The hand appeared AGAIN and turned the steering wheel.
Now I knew my Kingeero ancestors had finally located me.
At the third bend, I said enough is enough.
I opened the door and jumped.
Landed straight inside a ditch full of rainwater.
I got up and ran like a man who had personally seen Satan.
Luckily, there was a bar nearby.
I entered shaking, ordered four beers and started narrating my encounter with the supernatural to anybody willing to listen.
About 30 minutes later, three men walked into the bar.
Completely soaked.
One of them looked at me.
Looked again.
Then started laughing uncontrollably while pointing at me.
Finally he shouted:
“SI HUYU NI ULE MLEVI ALIINGIA GARI TUKISUKUMA?”
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Apparently the Prado had broken down.
These poor men had been pushing it through the rain…
Anyway, that is why I don’t go out on Fridays.
Goodnight people. I’m off to bed.
I have already survived enough life-threatening situations caused entirely by alcohol and poor information. 😭😂

Some immunogenicity professors need to study why elderly Kamba Kenyans seem to age in slow motion — eyes, ears, mind all intact decades past when most bodies give up. Look at Kivutha Kibwana,72, and his mum. She looks like his elder sister, not his mum.
If she’s pushing 100, what’s stopping her from doing 50 more, with ease? But the real question isn’t her age — it’s whether she’s ever been seriously sick. Has she ever needed treatment for a major illness? My guess: never.
And that tells you everything about the environment she grew up in and the food that built her body — long before processed everything took over. Worth real research, not just admiration.

Today, I tabled a Petition before the Senate on behalf of the people of Isulu-Bushiangala in Ikolomani Constituency, Kakamega County, concerning the ongoing gold prospecting and mining licensing processes involving Shanta Gold Kenya Limited and other actors.
The Petition raises far-reaching concerns around public participation, environmental accountability, land rights, displacement, community benefit, transparency, and the protection of the dignity and livelihoods of local communities.
The voices of the people of Ikolomani must be heard fully, fairly, and directly across the Republic of Kenya.
