A mechanistic analysis of adhesion #GPCRs reveals that peptide mimics, but not the corticosteroid beclomethasone, can activate signaling downstream of the GPCR GPR97/ADGRG3 and trigger neutrophil shape changes and migration. @UMPharmacology @lab_tall scim.ag/4kNU77g

The new issue of #ScienceSignaling has arrived!
Research in mice shows how microglia can trigger depressive-like behaviors linked to neuroinflammation, in vitro work reveals that adhesion GPCRs aren’t activated by corticosteroids, and more. scim.ag/4tLz8WI
Our lab is very happy to announce its newest PhD graduate, Tyler Bernadyn, who will be off to a career as a commissioned Captain officer in the US Army. Tyler was very successful publishing papers that cleared up controversies in our field (twice, nice).
Excellent talks from the lab by Yuling Feng (picture), Frank Kwarcinski, and Tyler Bernadyn at the Adhesion GPCR consortium, Mexico City.
The lab was outstanding today with clear and thoughtful presentations from summer undergrad students Lauren Conrad and Riya Gandhi (front and center left). Thankful for having these talented people in the lab and looking forward to watching them become future scientist leaders.

Happy to see this in print. What a study!
Very happy to have my recent work on "Time-resolved cryo-EM of G protein activation by a GPCR" out in Nature today! #cryoEM #GPCR @Nature #LabSkiniotis nature.com/articles/s41586-0…
Awesome!
Excited to have my maps and models released this week from our time-resolved #cryoEM manuscript. Associated EMPIAR micrograph data sets coming soon, too! 😁
Pleased to share our recent work in the @jbiolchem with GPR114 to help unify models of adhesion GPCR tethered agonism. Congrats to grad student Tyler Bernadyn of @UMPharmacology and his co-authors for putting together the work.

Lots of fun at the lab summer BBQ. Congrats to Ty and Kelly for winning the inaugural frisbee golf championship and to all for devouring the smoked T-loin with Amy, Riya, Tingzhen, Frank and Stephanie.
Lab (recent) alumnus Alex Vizurraga Ph.D. is the @MolPharmJournal highlighted trainee for July! His first author paper detailing the discovery of a new GPR56 activating compound was published in the same issue.

Two big victories for Tall lab members were celebrated tonight: Dr. Alex Vizurraga PhD has an approved thesis and Tingzhen Shen advanced to candidacy. Alex will be off to a big time biotech job in SF and Tingzhen is happy to focus on his adhesion GPCR deorphanization progress.

(3) We then processed each dataset using @cryosparc's 3DVA to sort along a principle component of motion that seemed to be an open-to-closed helical domain transition common to all of our datasets, revealing interesting comparisons between datasets with increasing GTP incubation.
