sweet dreams 🤍 #Reverie2026
thank you all for being part of something i’ll never forget
Keeping training data on S3 often means maintaining another storage layer just to feed the GPUs.
Join Adharvan Jakkula, HPC Engineer at @Zoox, at #Reverie2026 for the tradeoffs behind training straight from S3, while pushing for performance close to HPC storage.

Feature of the Week: Batch Vector Search Now Shares IVF Partition Scans
In a batch, many queries want the same IVF partitions, but Lance was re-reading them per query. Now it loads each partition once and scores every query that wants it.
Same answers, ~2.5x faster 🚀

stable-worldmodel got into neurips 2026!
it's basically everything we keep rebuilding for world model research (data loading, baselines, planning, evals) in one place so nobody has to do it again

The best kind of work almost always comes from collaborations!
This time @loldedxd helped me figure out the internal workings on funes. While I knew how to make funes work, he made sure I understand how things run on my system.
It is a fun 30 mins read.

Opening a dataset in Lance Data Viewer is faster now, thanks to a PR from @destiny032517.
It used to take three steps: fetch the schema, then the columns, then the first page of rows, each waiting for the one before it to finish. On a local folder you never notice it, but point it at data on NFS or S3 and those round trips add up.
There is now one /metadata call that returns the schema and column info together. Three requests in sequence became two in parallel.

Most work still relies on MP4 videos ... creating a major bottleneck that kills GPU utilization and training throughput.
Not anymore.
We teamed up with the incredible @lancedb team to build blazing-fast data loading with native @huggingface bucket streaming support! ⚡

How much of building AI is building search?
@BEBischof talks with @changhiskhan(CEO, @lancedb) to unpack why “almost every problem becomes a search problem”. Legacy stacks weren’t built for multimodal or agentic workloads, and that's becoming the lion-share of modern AI systems.
We decide RAG isn't dead, how feature engineering still matters, and what “superhuman” means for a search agent.
