Earlier this month, @AWF_Official Kenya Country Director, @Nancy_Githaiga joined leaders at @AFRIFUND Capital headquarters to deliberate on the @lapsset Corridor, one of Africa’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Stretching across three countries and potentially transforming the lives of 350 million people, the project envisions interconnected highways, railroads, oil pipelines, airports, and resort cities. Its scale is historic, but so too are the implications for land use, protected areas, and indigenous custodianship.
As the project advances, @AWF_Official has been invited to serve on the Horizon Consortium Board, ensuring that conservation, environmental safeguards, and community voices are not sidelined. With the @lapsset route intersecting eight protected areas, including Arawale, Buffalo Springs, Samburu, and Laikipia, the need for strong ecological and social stewardship is clear.
AWF’s role will be to provide sound policy guidance, foster dialogue with local communities and civil society, and help secure an approach that balances development with biodiversity protection.
The Horizon Consortium, comprising @AFRIFUND, @jonymak Group, @PortConsultants Rotterdam, @GleedsGlobal, the @InstituteGC, @nepad, and others, is committed to inclusive African ownership, with 40% of the $50 billion funding expected from Africa and its diaspora.
This bold commitment demonstrates that Africa can drive its own development agenda while safeguarding its natural capital. AWF is honored to contribute to shaping a future where infrastructure and prosperity advance hand in hand with conservation and community resilience.

Isiolo International Airport
A beautiful Airport under the Vision 2030 strategy including Lapsset.
Now that this facility is up and ready we should make it work .
1. The export of Miraa to Somalia should be moved from Wilson that is congested to Isiolo. Nyambene hills that grow the twig is visible from the airport so why rush miraa to Nbi. Kenyans will also be spared the dangers of those speeding dare devil land cruisers.
2. Timau and entire good part of Nyanyuki is now growing flowers and vegetables for the export market. Why truck the consignment to a busy JKIA while the same can be lifted out of Isiolo but cold storage is key.
3. Passenger flights , Nbi. Isiolo.Moyale. will work very well . Incentivise airlines to land here. Fly Jambojet
4. Tourists. Landing in small caravans across Samburu. Buffaloe springs , Shaba while it has its own charm its not cheap due to aircraft capacity. Incentivise airlines to deploy bigger aircrafts and the cost of air ticket will then drop by more than 40% to 50% which means more numbers into the lodges and camps in both Isiolo and Samburu County and even Meru and Maua.
5. Flying school. Isiolo Airport can make an excellent base for a flying school instead of fighting for space at already crowded Wilson.
6. Dry cargo similar to Eldoret and Isiolo would also do well to handle such cargo.
Well I am also well aware that the runway is not the ideal length for bigger aircrafts but should be fixed since the facility is already up and looking good.
Hon CS @kipmurkomen @KenyaAirports @FlyJambojet @KEPSA_KENYA Isiolo Gov @GovGuyo @KTF_Kenya we can chart way forward.
What I have listed is all possible and you don't have to break the bank .
As always I choose to remain an optimist

The recent docking of the Nagoya Express; a 336-meter-long container ship and the largest vessel ever to dock at an East African port at Lamu Port is a powerful signal of Kenya’s growing strategic importance in global maritime trade. As the ship collected 140 containers before heading to New York, this milestone not only showcases Lamu Port’s operational capacity but also validates the long-term investment in the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor. This event is a direct reflection of Kenya Vision 2030’s economic pillar, which seeks to transform Kenya into a globally competitive, industrialized, and prosperous nation through world-class infrastructure and increased trade connectivity.
Lamu Port, as a key component of the LAPSSET Corridor, is strategically positioned to reduce congestion at the Port of Mombasa, expand Kenya's cargo handling capacity, and offer a direct gateway to northern Kenya and landlocked neighbours such as South Sudan and Ethiopia. The successful docking of such a large vessel indicates that Lamu is not just a backup port but a viable, modern facility capable of handling global-scale shipping logistics. This enhances Kenya's role as a regional trade hub and supports the diversification of maritime routes — crucial goals under both Vision 2030 and LAPSSET.
Moreover, this development promises significant socio-economic benefits for the people of Lamu and Kenya at large. With increased port activity, the region is poised to benefit from job creation, infrastructure development, and new investment opportunities. These ripple effects support the social and political pillars of Vision 2030, which aim to reduce regional disparities, promote inclusive growth, and strengthen national cohesion. In essence, the docking of the Nagoya Express is more than a port activity — it is a turning point that demonstrates Kenya's readiness to compete in the global economy, leveraging flagship projects like LAPSSET to fulfil the transformative vision outlined in Vision 2030. #KenyaVision2030

A fleet of ten container ships is set to call the Port of Lamu in a fortnight, marking the busiest stretch yet for the facility’s transshipment business.
The surge, led by French shipping giant CMA CGM, delivers on the company’s pledge to increase calls at Kenya’s newest deep-water port as it seeks to anchor Lamu’s role in regional trade.
CMA CGM’s MV Lobivia this morning sailed to the Port of Lamu from the Port of Mombasa laden with 592 containers, which will be transshipped to Zanzibar via yet another first caller, MV Gulf Express, expected to dock in Lamu later today.
KPA's General Manager Port of Lamu Capt. AbdulAziz Mzee, noted that vessel traffic is at an all-time high when he received MV Lobivia.
According to the GM, more shipping lines have expressed interest in bringing ultra-large vessels to the Port of Lamu, pointing to the growing popularity of the modern facility whose berths span 400 metres with a wide turning basin.
Following the historic call of MV Nagoya, the longest ever vessel to dock in an East African port with a length overall of 335 metres last week, and 299-metre-long MV Tolten the week earlier, Lamu is witnessing an unprecedented rise driven by its strategic location and superior infrastructure.
As a strategy to complement the growing business demand, Kenya Ports Authority is advancing the acquisition of more modern equipment to further position the port, whose role in opening the country’s Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia transport corridor is critical.
Master of the vessel Captain Victor Bushyn who piloted the vessel to Lamu received a certificate of first call marking the maiden voyage of Lobivia to Lamu.
