Honored to be on a panel w/Senator @EdMarkey this week discussing ACTION because the stakes are too high to do anything less. #ClimateChange is here. And IT IS an emergency! Thank you to @laryu for moderating. @SomervilleCity

New piece out in @SSIReview today—@oliversabot and I arguing that the world is pursuing market shaping for climate tech far too narrowly, and outlining a mental model for what the next wave of green market shaping needs to look like. A 🧵 ssir.org/articles/entry/the_…

Really diligent reporting here on the pernicious influence of climate-denying gas utilities and AIM.

💡Did you know: renters who pay their own utilities can apply for a no-cost "Renter Home Energy Assessment" AND can opt into the 100% "local green" electricity program? Find out more here: somervillema.gov/departments…

If Massachusetts were truly committed to #EnvironmentalJustice, it would #StopPeabodyPeaker. Communities surrounding the new fossil fuel polluter ALREADY have a higher prevalence of a multitude of chronic diseases. #DoYourJob @EEASecretary @maura_healey

Pretty incredible changes to the energy outlook here.
NEW My customary deep dive on @IEA #WEO22 ⏩Energy transition "turbo charged" by Russia's war ⛰️Fossil fuels to peak by 2027 ❤️‍🔥Peak gas: "Golden age of gas" is over 🌄Solar outlook +20% vs last yr; wind +15% 🌡️Warming 2.5C (1.7C if pledges met) 1/ carbonbrief.org/in-depth-rus…

The massive flooding drowning Nigeria - a country the size of France and Germany combined - is devastating. 1.4 million people displaced, hundreds killed. But what makes it worse? It’s not even the worst climate event to hit Africa in 2022. For that, you need to look east… 🧭

BREAKING: The PR firm hired by Egypt for COP27 is none other than Hill+Knowlton, who worked with Big Tobacco and currently runs the “Oil & Gas Climate Initiative,” an industry front group. This is as dirty as it gets. opendemocracy.net/en/cop27-h…

If you ever find yourself battling Imposter Syndrome remember you couldn't possibly be worse at whatever you're doing than Liz Truss was at being Prime Minister of the UK – at Cambridge, MA

Community choice aggregation works. In Somerville, we receive more renewable energy than if we got power through Eversource, yet “Somerville’s rates have been lower than Eversource’s basic service price for all but six months out of the last five years.” commonwealthmagazine.org/ene…

Today @DouthatNYT advances the fallacy that phasing out fossil fuels will, uhm ... leave us without energy. Does he not understand the principle of technological substitution? That energy is the capacity for doing work, not "fossil fuels"? Let's investigate. THREAD

Seems to me the author of this piece needs to think a lot harder about why "environmental activists" call for both technological *and* systemic change. I mean, look at this claim: "Even Big Oil is starting to realize there is no future in fossil fuels." This is so naive.
