REYES' pointed start homes in on a phenomenon that has been common in Trump's second term: on high-profile, controversial filings, line attorneys have often not signed, leaving it to senior political appointees.

Today’s action revoking access for journalists from CNN, POLITICO, and MSNOW violates the First Amendment. The implications extend beyond these organizations: a standard used to exclude one news outlet because of its coverage could be applied to any outlet in the future. The American people, through a free and independent press, must be able to scrutinize those elected to power, regardless of whether government officials view it favorably.  That’s why courts have repeatedly held that once the White House provides access to journalists, it cannot deny that access arbitrarily or based on the content of their reporting. The WHCA calls on the administration to immediately restore our colleagues' access. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President

SCOOP: Trump to appear on podcast hosted by Michael Cohen, his former fixer and onetime foe The interview is scheduled to air Thursday on Cohen’s podcast, according to a White House official granted anonymity to describe plans that have not been publicly announced. Earlier this evening, an individual disrupted Shabbat services at Central Synagogue in Manhattan. As synagogue security was escorting him out, he struck a member of the congregation, damaged synagogue property, and then spit at and headbutted a member of the security team. An NYPD sergeant working a paid detail at the synagogue immediately stepped in and took the individual into custody. I have spoken with the rabbi of the synagogue, and I’m relieved that no one was seriously injured. Those who were hurt were evaluated at the scene and are doing well. There are no known additional threats at this time, and additional NYPD resources have been deployed to the synagogue. The investigation is ongoing. I understand the sanctity of this space and its meaning for congregants. Central Synagogue is where I grew up. In joy and in sorrow, it has always been a place of comfort and peace. What happened there tonight is deeply painful. A place of worship should never be a crime scene.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) announces she’ll vote NO on Todd Blanche’s nomination to be attorney general. Now, Blanche’s confirmation lies in the hands of Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.). With McConnell absent, if Cassidy is a no, Blanche fails. But if McConnell comes back and votes yes, Cassidy’s vote wouldn’t matter.
I have had numerous constructive meetings with Mr. Blanche and he comes across as decent and capable. I appreciate the trip he made to learn more about Alaska, including our rural areas, and as Acting Attorney General he has made several noteworthy decisions that will benefit our state and the nation. Ultimately, however, I will oppose his nomination. The politicization—even weaponization—of the Department did not start with this administration but has accelerated during it. I take issue with the handling of the release of the Epstein files; the sweeping immunity protections granted to the President, his family, and their businesses; the statements that have been made to anti-abortion groups; and the repeated targeting of individuals ranging from former administration staff to sitting U.S. Senators. I am also keenly aware that the Department’s nearly $2-billion dollar slush fund—which likely would have rewarded January 6 protesters—is only off the table because this nomination is pending and the Senate has leverage. Once we vote, that will end, and there is no telling what the future holds. The country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration. I hope Mr. Blanche is able to achieve that, if confirmed, but I simply do not have confidence that will be the case.

New: Cornyn and Tillis are out with a joint statement throwing support behind Todd Blanche for AG. They point to the agreement with DOJ on the anti-weaponization fund and IRS audit immunity. "we look forward to voting to advance his nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee soon."
