We just launched a brand new brush type in @figma: Scatter brushes! So proud of my incredible engineers on getting this one out the door and in your hands.
I made this art using them and it was fun as hell.

All credit to @rogie the SVG filter mad scientist, and Yassir, his effect rendering eng partner in crime. All I did was act as PM driving them crazy with my insistence βkeep going, it HAS to be SVG-able!β π€
Made a lil illustration in @figma draw with dynamic stroke and texture effects and text on a path. I dared to paste the SVG code into @CodePen ... this is what happened...
Spoiler alert... It worked! @rogie @lbudorick @maxvoltar you super amazing brilliant beautiful people! This is delight!

Watch myself, @rogie and @lbudorick go into the nitty (and definitely) gritty details of the new Figma Draw, as we explain more about how the nearly 2 dozen features came to be, and how we ourselves use them for our respective use cases. #Config2025 youtube.com/watch?v=bCZ5_orYβ¦

As part of this Config update, we've made some quality-of-life improvements to auto layout!

Hey designers! What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced when using auto layout in @figma?
Would love to hear from both newcomers and pros alike! π

Marcin is a friend and colleague and someone I look up to.
It turns out that you can still order his massive tome on the history of keyboards and get it in time for christmas (deadline is tomorrow).
Check it out! Or just read this article and marvel in the nerdiness of it all!

me: "powerpoint? what are you going to do with that?"
bf: "mocking up some fence options, I just need some way to quickly draw some rectangles"

By the way, hereβs where to find the new βMax linesβ truncation feature (as long as your text node has an auto-sizing mode enabled):
In today's @figma #Config2023 auto layout launch, we're shipping an upgrade to how you can truncate textβtruncating with "Max lines" rather than a fixed height. But while we were at it, we snuck in a change to the core text layout engine where we decide exactly how to truncaβ¦π§΅
The result is that we sometimes break words in a weird place, but we decided this tradeoff is worth it: people care more about how this text node looks in layout mode than they do about one awkward word break in text editing mode.
I'm excited about this and *so many more* changes in today's Auto Layout launch! Check out the rest of the new features here π xitter.cf/figma/status/167156431β¦
#Config2023 Launch 4: Auto layout updates
Three words: Wrap, min, maxβthatβs right, spend less time manually resizing and more time creating components and layouts that are much more responsive.
