The career landscape for anyone specializing in higher education pedagogy is ... weird. The work of faculty development, the work of teaching teachers, is too often perceived as instrumental.

These past few days have been a deep, dark valley, but we are hoping for some light. The Lauren McCluskey Memorial Fund will provide scholarships for student-athletes in track and field. This will be an endowed fund and will therefore live forever.

Feeling inspired as I read the ADE Bulletin this morning. I'm especially taken with the piece by @ldhunter that includes "bag presentation" and "passion pitch" assignments. Great ideas!

My view of students as complex and deeply committed to their education is fueled by the thousands of self-reflection letters I've read throughout my career.
Any assumptions I might make are squashed by what students write about themselves and their work. jessestommel.com/how-to-ungr…

I once told a former English department colleagues that I thought 40% of the coursework for a graduate degree in English should focus on Pedagogy.
Why not? Since at least 40-90% of the work of faculty in English Departments is teaching.
I was laughed at.
