Half the cost for 2 points. I’ve been using it for weeks, it’s very good
GitHub has released Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot, which orchestrates between Anthropic and OpenAI models. It scores 2 points below Opus 5.5 in Claude Code at half the Cost per Task in the Coding Agent Index
GitHub describes Copilot Fusion as a runtime orchestration system, which selects and coordinates models to optimize performance, cost, and latency for each task. Copilot Fusion chooses between a number of models from Anthropic and OpenAI, including Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6 Astra, and GPT-6 Sol. We benchmarked its max setting in GitHub Copilot CLI in the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index v2.0.
Token costs are charged based on the underlying models used to complete a request.
Key takeaways:
➤ Cost-efficient for near-frontier performance: Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot costs $5.59 per task, versus $11.42 for Claude Code with Opus 5.5 (max). Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high) scores 62 at $8.00 per task.
➤ Slight lead in Terminal-Bench 4.0: The Coding Agent Index v2.0 weights its three constituent benchmarks equally. Copilot Fusion in GitHub Copilot leads Terminal-Bench 4.0 with a score of 71. It ranks third on FrontierCode in the chart at 51, behind Claude Code with Opus 5.5 (max) at 56 and Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high) at 54. Its SWE-Atlas-QnA-AA score lags at 57, between GPT-6 Astra in Codex and Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity CLI.
➤ Half the token use of Opus 5.5 in Claude Code: GitHub Copilot Fusion used 7.2M tokens per task in the Coding Agent Index, approximately half of the tokens used by Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, and 30% less than Devin Fusion with Opus 5.5 (max) + GPT-6 Luna (high).

Spoiling the reveal: nearly 50% less expensive, 40% faster thanks to fewer turns, and right at the edge of frontier intelligence.
Copilot Fusion Max is the real deal and we’re only getting started. Go give it a try because we’re making it 30% off through the end of
November.

New at #GitHubUniverse: Copilot Fusion, selectable as your "model" in Copilot.
Instead of you picking a model, it looks at what a task needs and runs it across models from all providers, including Anthropic and OpenAI. Aiming for a good result, fast, and at the right cost.
Copilot fusion - pick the right model for the right task, 30% off through November! Oh and hello MAI-code-1.1-Flash in the lineup @github @MicrosoftAI #GitHubUniverse
#GitHubUniverse 2026 begins now! 🎉

Introducing Microsoft-Decision-1, our new model for fast decision-making.
It delivers top performance on structured decision tasks, outperforming both LLMs and other decision models in latency and quality.
We’re already testing it across Microsoft for everything from incident response and quality control to scientific discovery.
You may not like to hear this, but Microsoft is going to ram Copilot — the new “operating system for work” as @satyanadella called it today — down the throat of every enterprise in the world. It’s going to be a damn good harness. This strategy is going to work and they will be a $5t company within a year.
They’ve been quietly adding brilliant product leaders (notably @jacobandreou) who has better design instincts than almost anyone else in large cap tech today. He was Evan’s key deputy at Snap and responsible for almost everything that worked on their march through hell to 500m DAUs.
Microsoft finally started to ship decent models this year. MAI is not SOTA, but it’s a class of models that are efficient, specialized, and tunable. For complex work, they send you off to ChatGPT or Claude, which they will happily serve you on Azure, a business that is ripping with 43% yoy growth.
Muse and (and now Grok Bot) have shown us that a great harness doesn’t require an extraordinary model to be game-changing. Ecosystem integration, disciplined product design, access to tools, and more than anything else — user trust — is what it takes.
Anyway, I think about this chart a lot.

Windows Hybrid Intelligence and Copilot are a dream come true.
Copilot can ground over your whole PC, take actions on your local device, and even use local models to save time and money.
.@MicrosoftAI models now running on device!
Today marks a new chapter for Windows, as we bring unmetered intelligence to every desk and every home, and make every PC a place where agents can work securely on your behalf.
Some highlights of what we announced:
• MAI-Code-1.1 Flash: 137B parameter coding model w/ 256K context window, which is now optimized to run on your PC!
• GitHub Copilot now hands off work to local models like MAI-Code-1.1 Flash, helping projects cost a lot less without sacrificing quality.
• With Hybrid Intelligence, Copilot can now take action directly on the PC and keep sensitive work on your device.
• And with Code in Copilot, you can essentially build any software you need on your desktop, without any cloud token spend, and it’s just super at it. You’re no longer limited to what’s in an app store! Your PC becomes an infinite software factory.
• Security is foundational to all this, which is why we are also bringing together Windows and Agent 365 so agents can work within secure boundaries on-device, including MXC a local sandbox for agent execution. Windows becomes your secure agent box!
• All this comes to life on a new generation of devices, like Surface Laptop Ultra, powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark.
Can’t wait to see what you build with all this.
Thanks to our friends at @OpenRouter for supporting another great launch!
MAI-Voice-2.1 from @MicrosoftAI is live on OpenRouter.

Super happy to officially announce that we are a̶c̶q̶u̶i̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ joining forces with @nvidia 🔥
Here is a more personal take:
AI is at an inflection point. Open source AI can become less relevant in the coming years if the big closed labs run away with it, OR it can become the foundational fabric of the next phase of human civilization.
Those are vastly different outcomes, and we need the critical mass to ensure we give our collective best shot to the second outcome. Given @JensenHuang's stance on open source AI and how he stepped up to defend it when it was under threat earlier in the summer, NVIDIA was the only partner we truly considered.
HF will remain an independently run, neutral platform.
This gives fuel to our long-term vision and mission of unlocking the community's progress to ensure that AI, which is the greatest breakthrough of our lifetime, is accessible to as many people as possible.
