Sort this out right now @hilarybennmp. A genuinely disgusting display of antisemitism at the Royal Armouries in YOUR constituency. I felt sick when I saw this.

Should I panic buy lots of items so that Supermarket profits get a boost, which when combined with Black Friday and Christmas spending artificially inflates GDP in early 2027 thereby enabling the government and BBC News to announce "Good News on Growth" just as Fuel Bills go up?

Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man of enormous courage, integrity and truthfulness. No one should think for a minute that his relentless defence of Palestinian rights and historical truth is easy or comes without heavy personal costs. Throughout the genocide in Gaza, Jones remained a tireless bur rigorous and supremely decent voice. I suspect part of what initially moved him was the strong displeasure in being treated like an idiot by the official propaganda – a noble motive in itself – but there is no question he has been genuinely touched by the images of suffering arriving daily from Gaza. And yet, how does his intellectual fixation on a battle between left and right help us understand the horrors of Gaza, or move us to stop them? My impression is that the opposite has happened. People look at what is happening in Gaza and ask themselves what a person on the right or on the left should think. In many cases this is ideology. In most, simply careerism and group association. Jones shows how limited the perspective really is. How about, like the author himself, asking how a human being should feel? How about returning to the world of facts and feelings rather than our endless Marvel franchise? newstatesman.com/culture/boo…

I'm not going to name the school, but the @BBC's coverage of the antisemitism in schools report featured interviews with children from a Jewish school. Here's the rub, though. The school's own published curriculum explicitly teaches Zionism, celebrates the establishment of Israel and describes preparing pupils to become "positive advocates for Israel" at university. It even references bringing in organisations such as StandWithUs to prepare pupils for that advocacy. Now, let me be absolutely clear. There is nothing wrong with teaching Jewish history, culture or identity. And antisemitism must be challenged wherever it exists. But when children are actively encouraged to advocate for a particular state, rather than critically examine its history, policies and actions, surely we have to question whether this is education or ideological conditioning? And here's the staggering hypocrisy. We're being told that schools must exercise political impartiality when discussing Palestine, while a school can openly describe preparing children to advocate for Israel. Political impartiality cannot be a principle applied selectively, depending on which side of a conflict children are encouraged to support. And the BBC has a responsibility to scrutinise that distinction, not simply present children's views without examining the educational environment in which those views have developed. Children deserve an education that teaches them how to think, not what to think. @NEUnion @educationgovuk

The Board of Deputies are an Israel advocacy group who have become so ideologically extremist that they don't even have the tolerance for liberal Zionists now. Greens should prepare to tell them to fuck off.

In a short while, Secretary of State for Education, @LucyMPowell will present the Sir David Bell review into antisemitism in schools and colleges. This review is billed as the 'Independent review into antisemitism in schools and colleges'. I've spoken to a number of individuals and organisations that submitted evidence to the Bell Review when the call for views from people with relevant lived experience, knowledge or expertise of antisemitism in schools and colleges went out earlier this year. A number of them have gotten back to me to relay their horror and dismay that the review seems overly focussed on issues such as the presence of Palestine solidarity badges and other imagery in schools rather than the multitude of clear examples where Jewish students have been targeted with antisemitic abuse, discrimination and hatred. It appears that the review is coming down hard on expressions of Palestine solidarity while being rather light on pupils who do Hitler salutes or make jokes about Jews and money. Having done a little research I do also have some serious concerns as to the impartiality of this review and also the recommendation that schools adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism despite it not being possible to make this compulsory, nor is it legally actionable. If we care about tackling antisemitism in society, ensuring we get to it where it manifests in our schools and among young people, then we need to put a stop to the weaponisation of antisemitism and its use for political football where Israel-Palestine is concerned. This review is fundamentally biased, ideological, and linked to efforts to tie Jewish identity with support for Israel while suppressing pro-Palestine expression as 'antisemitic' and intimidating for Jews. The reality of course is that young Jews in the UK are way more intimidated and frightened by their classmates doing Hitler salutes, making jokes about the Holocaust, doing gas sounds towards them because they're Jewish, being physically assaulted for being Jewish, being bullied and isolated for being Jewish, being sexually assaulted (reports of kids demanding to see the circumcised penis of a Jewish school child in year 8), and all the other antisemitic shit that is happening in our schools. I'm also reminded of what we learned from the documentary film @IsraelismFilm about the efforts to indoctrinate young Jews into seeing Israel as integral to their identity as Jews, that when Israel is criticised they are being personally attacked as Jews, and that they can only see themselves as Jewish if they support and love Israel. Anyway, below are some very serious issues relating to Sir David Bell, his lack of impartiality, and the failure to declare vested interests of himself and a number of those on the reference group: - David Bell's role as a permanent secretary at the department of education was not disclosed as a conflict of interest. - David Bell is named on the national council of the 'National Study Group', an educational charity, that in its mission statement says that its goal is to "initiate or expand active links and research collaboration between academics, specialists and centres-of-excellence in the UK and their counterparts in Israel." The ASG is "primarily a UK-Israel operation" and rather worryingly the "only issue on which ASG has firm policy is opposition to BDS. The Charity is totally committed to the universality of knowledge and rejects any disruption to cross-national co-operation." - The ASG, of which Sir David Bell is named as a member of national council, provides educational talks about Israel to schools. - Executive director of the ASG, John D.A. Levy, is on the advisory board of Academic Friends of Israel and a separate charity, the friends of Israel educational foundation. - The Friends of Israel Educational Foundation carries out hundreds of school talks in the UK. 1/?

Novara Media occupying the space that they do is extremely damaging. They are not radical or principled but rather a crew of opportunist careerists who I think in many cases are also not very bright. It is perfectly fitting that they continue to boost & be boosted by Paul Mason.

Establish a national hotline for school leaders dealing with antisemitism 4. Improve teaching about contemporary antisemitism and modern Jewish life 5. Teach pupils to recognise and challenge antisemitic conspiracy theories 6. Include antisemitism explicitly in school safeguarding policies 7. Train teachers to recognise and tackle antisemitism 8. Work with the Home Office and the Prevent programme to help schools identify when antisemitism may be linked to radicalisation 9. Create more opportunities for pupils to engage with Jewish communities, including visits to synagogues 15. Make sure Judaism and modern Jewish life are properly represented in religious education 16. Improve media literacy so pupils can also identify online antisemitism 17. Provide better resources for teaching the Israel-Palestine conflict fairly and sensitively 18. Establish a dedicated support service to help schools, colleges and councils deal with antisemitism 21. Use some of the Government's security funding to help Jewish schools and colleges undertake educational visits safely 22. Run a campaign to tackle antisemitic behaviour at transport hubs near Jewish schools and colleges 23. Provide Jewish school and college leaders with mentoring and more security advice 24. Strengthen accountability for schools that fail to deal properly with antisemitism 25. Enable Ofsted and the Independent Schools Inspectorate to assess how schools tackle antisemitism 26. Make local councils identify local patterns of antisemitism and help schools respond 27. Share effective practice and guidance between schools and colleges
