I have started Hors-jeu (French for "offside", but translates directly to "outside the game") a little space where I can write about things related to football, but more about the things that revolve around football, like places and people. I'm pretty proud of my first piece, go check it out horsjeustories10.substack.co…

I think time for a break from football twitter for a while. My team lost a Clasico and I feel very, very little, just tired of the bickering and agendas. Going to keep my account active but will hopefully not be using it much for quite a while unless something crazy happens. Keep an eye on my Substack, might try to write some stuff if I find some inspiration. substack.com/@horsjeustories…

Yep, this was essentially my thesis after the game.
We actually played much better against PSG than Real Madrid. But in both games, Barcelona failed to assert themselves and play their game. You can't let these teams breathe. You have to suffocate them entirely. At home. With a chance to go 9 points clear. Disappointing.

If I feel at the end of the season that there is no further improvement to be had under Flick or that we've reached our ceiling, I'll be happy to move on and for the club to find someone new. For me, a manager, a squad, and a club hierarchy have to be a healthy symbiosis with potential for growth - if it seems that the ideas are stale or there is no potential to keep growing, it will be time to part ways and see what we can find next. I'm not at that point yet though.

I'll say again though, as I've said before, that no matter who the next manager is, they will find it much more difficult than people on here think.

Here were my game notes. I took fewer notes in the second half, it was pretty boring. My big takeaway is the last note I took. After the Raphinha goal in previous seasons we would have built off of it and won comfortably, but this time there was no emotional/physical uplift after we got back into the game, it was so flat. It was a very different performance than PSG, but definitely more frustrating because it should have been a routine win. Poor response from us, but we move

Ok almost caught up in my rewatch to where I started watching the game (75th minute or so). Gonna be honest though, this isn't even a terrible performance, we're just off right now and it's a bit slow. I've been writing down more thoughts, will share them shortly

Can everyone chill a bit? It’s October. Good teams need setbacks now and again. Just have to respond correctly and we’ll be totally fine

How was Xavi before the injury btw? And how serious do we think the injury was? I didn’t see

Yeah if we don’t get anyone in January just write off the whole season and the next few seasons tbh. I had confidence in all competitions but it was like 90% dependent on us signing players in January
🚨Hansi Flick: "We're waiting for Christensen. I think he will be back for next season." "It also looks good for Eric and Kounde."

Just don’t forget that in each of the last two seasons the title race has been close in the first half of the season and we have turned it around in the second half. We are still in a great position, it’s time to get back to work and kill everyone in the league.

Pressure the board for January, Hansi
🚨🎙️| Hansi Flick: “We’re RUNNING OUT of defenders. I’m glad to have Frenkie and the others back, but managing the situation isn’t easy.” #fcblive

I hate these kind of opinions. Such a false narrative.
11 wins in a row and then the first real tests..

🚨 The last time Barcelona lost to Real Madrid on October 25, they went on to win the TREBLE that season! It happened in the 2014/15 season, when Barça had also suffered a defeat against PSG beforehand. #fcblive 🏆

Realistically Flick gave us a period of Clasico dominance we haven’t seen since Pep, but we can’t dominate them every single time even in the best of conditions, they just have too much quality. Need to get our lick back at the Bernabeu later in the season

Beating Madrid is about destroying their spirit. You do that by not letting them sniff the ball. We’ve done that in recent Clasicos, didn’t do that today.
🚨 Frenkie de Jong: "We were too slow. We lost stupid balls, more than usuals." "You can't do this against Real Madrid. They are specialists in recovering balls and attacking in behind." "In a couple of counter attacks they scored the goals."

This seems like a weird game to analyze because we conceded two really stupid goals. Seems to me that the lack of cutting edge in attack and midfield is the big concern, something that hasn’t been an issue so much in the past two seasons.
