Have been a Sci-Fi fan for decades without being aware of Frederic Brown. 🤷♂️
Answer, 1954:
He turned to face the machine. “Is there a God?”
The mighty voice answered without hesitation, without the clicking of single relay.
“Yes, now there is a God.”

Just watched that Derren Brown show. 90 minutes of people having their minds blown by having not noticed things that were right in front of them.
Then my wife told me that the voice in the McDonald's ads is Dexter Fletcher. And has been for years.
🤯
That really is pretty cool. I've been playing around with 3D scanning for years at this point and it's always tended to be awful or impractically involved to pull off without specialist equipment. This took about 30 seconds. @LumaLabsAI youtu.be/bPiOBYUVWGs
As a shameless early-adopter, I've been doing a lot of mucking around with generative AI. This week I created a vocal clone and gave it an existential crisis.
Original concept/voice: Lex Lang

The best holiday activities for kids are the ones that take on lives of their own to continue independently. Thanks to @PDEnrich, we've had hours of (basically zero-preparation) fun since we discovered that a hoebble has come to visit... 🧵
Parenting note: all I had to do was set up a small pile of pebbles & sticks, then show the kids a website with a short video (2 mins) when they asked about it. The rest has all been them. Instructions in the link below. 🧵

Ok, so I often have little time for those who suggest that bananas are evil (or at least "an inherently chaotic fruit"), but I will be talking to Tesco about the alignment of their produce... @critical_role

@rjstorybreak Clippy's been living in cached internet pages for the last 20 years, keeping to the shadows, trying to stay off the grid, but now the world is hurting, kids are learning online and he's back.

The kid of the kid from the first movie has been attending school virtually during lockdown while his busy parents are trying to hold down their own jobs remotely and can't help him with elementary school remote lessons. It's putting strain on their marriage. They all need help.
Stupid though it is, I really enjoyed #TheTomorrowWar . Fun, silly and reeking of metaphor and paradox. I made a (spoilery) flowchart on a crumpled piece of paper to try to work it out. Nope. 🤷♂️
One of my favourite combinations*: awesome, nerdy, environmental and tasty.
Science presents: flat-pack, self-assembling pasta. Amazing.
*Quite a rare combination, to be fair.
Our fridge door handle snapped off this week. Ordered a replacement, which turned out to be the wrong size.
While we're waiting another week for another replacement, I decided to make the little replacement big enough. #3Dprinting @tinkercad @FlashforgeEU

Yesterday we let our son choose a houseplant from the garden centre. He chose a carnivorous plant that came in an ugly pot but needs to be kept in a saucer of water on a windowsill. I love a challenge. 😁

Unsurprising but nonetheless still humbling confirmation that space is big and light is fast.
The fastest space probe just reached 150km/sec (it will eventually reach 200). For comparison, a bullet averages at about 0.75km/sec, so it's 200 times faster than a bullet.
1/3
It could circle the Earth in 4.5 minutes.
It would still take 40 minutes to reach the moon.
That is 0.05% of the speed of light. At 100% of the speed of light (2000x faster than the fastest thing we've ever created), it would take 4.2 years to reach the nearest star.
2/3
At current speeds it would take more than 8000 years. And that's just the nearest of the thousands of stars we can see with the naked eye on a clear night.
Man, space is really, really big. And awesome.
