There's a whole ecosystem that's so fixated on the presidential race to the exclusion of all else that shapes people's lives... that it sleepwalks even thru local-state elections that matter to the presidential race! Here's more info about the election: boltsmag.org/pennsylvania-su…

AOC: There are not moderates in the Republican party. There are just different degrees of fealty to Donald Trump. But it starts with a lot of fealty and goes to extreme fealty… We saw them run around the House like a Roomba until they found a door that Democrats opened

Reminder: the Senate has legislation that is widely supported on both sides of the aisle to avoid a shutdown. There is a bipartisan way out of this mess if House Republicans would just… do their jobs.

Incentivizing marriage was a big part of the 90s welfare reform package and it still leads to humiliating and infantilizing treatment of poor single women. The message is "why would we build a social safety net when you should just find a husband" propublica.org/article/to-ge…

This is all catastrophically bad for our democracy.
I talked to 2 former Democratic justices in WEST VIRGINIA. Both were impeached by GOP in 2018. One said: “The Wisconsin situation is a complete power grab to undermine democracy. It shocks me because it even goes further than the one that I experienced.” boltsmag.org/wisconsin-impea…

Thirteen presidential libraries released a joint statement on September 7 over concerns for U.S. democracy amid deep national polarization. It’s the first time the libraries have joined to make such a public declaration. bit.ly/3Exdqxd

So it’s clear: in his press conference about RICO charges against Stop Cop City organizers, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr explicitly named that Cop City is needed because of the uprisings in 2020. This will be replicated in cities across the country — it already is!

Book challenges are leading to library closures. It’s a feature, not a bug. Protect public libraries.

Fourth - The calls/pressure to defund the entire public library for a locality begins. THIS IS A TACTIC. To attack people. To attack stories and to attack our shared community places. Help this library fightforthefirst.org/petitio…

Every time you hear someone talking about vouchers and “school choice,” you should be thinking about headlines like this. Because vouchers are purely—PURELY—about taking public money and stuffing it into private pockets.
Florida public schools were defunded $2.5 BILLION this year to finance the purchase of lavish perks and private school tuition for wealthy families. Unaccountable school vouchers are an multi-billion dollar disaster and taxpayers are footing the bill.

We already know from the comparative epidemiology that the boosters so misguidingly attacked in the US as unnecessary in the Fall of 2021 would’ve saved so many lives during the Omicron wave. This longitudinal paper explains one big immunological dynamic of why that happened.

Every single Republican candidate except Hutchinson raised their hand when asked if they would support Trump as the GOP President even if he is convicted. EVEN IF CONVICTED, folks. That includes Chris Christie. This is who the GOP is, folks. #GOPDebate
