The most insidious consequence of colonialism is how it captured our imaginations. It’s hard to think of good governance outside of “democracy” or economic prosperity outside of “capitalism.” We have to unlearn these paradigms & reclaim different ways of being in the world.

This is Step 1: Clean Air Matters. And you can clear the air that you breathe.
An #SFU-led project is helping seniors and those at-risk of lung disease create 500 DIY-air filters to reduce exposure to dangerous #wildfire smoke. @pippsbc @sfu_fhs ow.ly/jkeW50RYO6c

This week marks one year since I released Unbroken, a book that outlines how Canada executed a g3nocid3 in this country and the particular violence it inflicted against Indigenous women and girls. We won't stay silent about g3nocid3 here or in other Indigenous territories. 🍉

For the first time since Ontario became a province, Sol Mamakwa @solmamakwa, MPP of Kiiwetinoong, addressed the Government of Ontario, a signatory to Treaty 9, in his language Anishininiimowin. Sol is an Indian Residential School Survivor. He used to be punished for speaking his language, for being himself. Today, he spoke Anishininiimowin in a packed House, witnessed by First Nations leaders, family, and, most importantly, his Mom, Kezia Mamakwa. It is her birthday today. Mino-dibishkam, Kezia. Your son is moving hearts and minds. (Photo by @NANComms)

MPP Sol Mamakwa participates in a ceremony prior to the Legislature sitting. @solmamakwa will for 1st time in province's history ask a question in his first language, Anishininiimowin, known in English as Oji-Cree. He shares the day with his mother who turns 79 today. #ONpoli

While I was in Lytton this week, the balsam root was flowering on low/med severity burn sites, all while cultural, controlled burning was happening on the hillsides. There is hope and change and so much good work happening. Was awesome to witness. Hands up to everyone out there. 🙌🏽💜

Indigenous education is so much more than making drums and dream catchers. We need to be teaching about the peoples of this land and the importance of their culture and traditions. It is so much more than one off lessons. carolynroberts.net/single-po…

Being authentically who we are as humans in a classroom will invite students in to be in relation with you. This relationship is key for teaching to happen.

Today is International Inuit Day! In 1977, @ICC_Canada Founder Eben Hopson, Sr. hoped to unify Inuit in all regions around Inuit Nunaat. International Inuit Day commemorates and celebrates Inuit voices, culture, language and way of life! #internationalinuitday
