There has been some criticism directed at the Ishiba administration for not getting a written trade deal with Trump.
The Washington Post reported in June that the Trump administration has been "very much moving away from things being in writing."
Under such conditions, it isn't surprising that there was a miscommunication within the US government about what tariff rates should be levied against Japan.
BREAKING: Trump administration has agreed to correct a presidential order on tariffs and reimburse all mistakenly collected levies, Japanese trade envoy Ryosei Akazawa told reporters on Thursday.

Australia's choice of Japan to partner with its next gen frigate -- despite it being the pricier option -- is a very significant development for the people of Japan.
For the first time since the end of WWII, a country actively wanted to be a fully-committed ally of Japan, integrating both defense industries and starting a partnership that will last decades.
