Being a lawyer is realizing some people would rather spend $20,000 proving a point than settle for $5,000 and move on.

This is not just another study to read, share and move on from. I say that as a Black woman who has experienced miscarriage and stillbirth within Canada’s health care system, and as a researcher studying Black women’s experiences of miscarriage in Canada. A new national study of nearly 1.5 million births found that Black people in Canada had a 66% higher risk of severe pregnancy complications than White people. We have the lived experiences. And we have been saying this for years. We now have the data as well. So what are we going to do about it?
I was almost a death statistic.I don’t want another Black woman to become one before we decide to act. Read the study. Talk about it. But most importantly, let’s do something with what it tells us.

Ontario parents: Did you know that students are permitted to listen to the reading passages on the standardized EQAO Reading assessment?
Read that again.
Students can LISTEN to the text and then answer questions designed to assess their reading comprehension.
So we need to ask an important question:
Are we accurately measuring reading comprehension….or are we potentially inflating what the data tells us about students’ ability to READ?
Reading comprehension requires students to decode the words AND understand the language.
If the text is read aloud, the decoding demand can be bypassed. A student may demonstrate strong language comprehension while still struggling significantly with word reading.
And that distinction matters.
Because when families receive EQAO results indicating that their child has met the provincial standard in reading, do they know that their child may have been permitted to listen to the passage rather than independently read it?
Parents deserve to understand what the assessment measures—and what it may not.
👇 Ontario parents/caregivers: Did you know students could listen to the reading passages on EQAO?
Teachers: What do you think this means for how we interpret Ontario’s reading data? @eqao @ONeducation

And the beat goes on!
As reported today, May 18, 2026, in an Artificial Lawyer (AL) post. From the AL post:
"OpenAI is planning to launch a legal AI offering, joining Anthropic and Microsoft in the strategy of providing legal-specific tools for lawyers. Sources told Artificial Lawyer that the plan involves hires from the legal tech world and could be branded as ‘Codex for Legal’.
"In terms of how this will look, it’s understood that the current thinking is to have a range of ‘Codex for…..’ offerings all focused on major business verticals, e.g. sales and finance, of which one will be for legal, hence: Codex for Legal. Anthropic initially made the same type of move earlier this year, with a range of enterprise plugins, of which one was for legal."

Most lawyers I talk to are using Claude.ai for client work.
That's a problem most don't know they have.
There's a second product - Claude Code that runs on the Anthropic API directly. The confidentiality difference between the two for legal work is not marginal. It's structural.
And in September 2025, the gap got a lot wider.
Three things to know:
→ Claude.ai (Free, Pro, even Team): As of late 2025, Anthropic uses your conversations to train models unless you actively opted out when prompted. Retention for opted-in users extends to 5 years.
→ Claude Code (and any API-direct integration): No training. Ever. Inputs and outputs are deleted within 7 days. The Commercial Terms of Service contractually prohibit Anthropic from training on your data.
→ An option that does not exist on Claude.ai: Enterprise API customers can sign a Zero Data Retention agreement. Under ZDR, no data is stored at rest after the API response is returned, except for safety violations. There is no ZDR equivalent on Claude.ai.
The question every lawyer running client work through Claude right now should be asking:
"Did I opt out of training on my Claude.ai account when prompted, or did I tap through it?"
If you don't know - your privileged client communications may be sitting in a 5-year training pipeline.
You probably can't run Claude Code yourself. That is fine.
The point is: when a legal tech vendor pitches you "Claude-powered AI," ask one question.
"Are you running on the Claude API directly, or through the Claude.ai web interface?"
The answer tells you what infrastructure your privileged client data is running on.
If you don't know - that's the diligence call you make this week.

For those using general purpose AI tools “to generate your first draft of legal work and then give it to your lawyer to *just give it a quick review*”, read this and share it with the ones in the back so they can also hear: reviewing the AI slop that you generated using general purpose AI tools and giving you legal advice based on this AI slop will take your lawyer more time and more money than letting your lawyer do the work from scratch. Let lawyers do their work, use the right precedent/context, apply their judgment, experience, and expertise so you get the best possible advice outcome for you and your business.
The solution isn’t for clients to solve their legal problems and needs on their own with AI slop because they will suffer harm, loss, and make the wrong decisions based on inaccurate, inexperienced, and wrong information, documents, analysis, and advice.

I am a woman from a small village in northern Iran.
Jailed for protesting.
Beaten for showing my hair.
Expelled from parliament for exposing their corruption.
Forced into exile.
My sister was paraded on state TV to publicly disown me.
My brother was imprisoned as punishment.
My mother was interrogated to stop her from expressing love for me.
Assassins were sent to New York, three times, to kill me.
And now I’m supposed to sit next to them at the U.N. Security Council.
Thanks @USAmbUN for finally giving me a seat, so I can call out the regime, and the U.N. leadership that still legitimizes it.
This is my full address to the UN Security Council about

12,000 Iranians have been massacred in just 2 days. My heart is in a million pieces for my beloved homeland.
Not only is there a nationwide internet blackout, but agents are going door to door confiscating starlink devices. This is a full-scale dystopian terror operation.
The communication shut down is so that the regime can commit a mass elimination project in the dark.
Iranians not only have no access to the outside world, they have no access to each other. To medical services, to family members, to neighbors in need.
They can't seek help if wounded.
They have asked of us one thing: be their voice.
Speak where they can't. Share their stories. Urge your administrations to act. Every red line has been crossed and @POTUS must come through on his promise and act now.
In the dark, we're not just their voice. We're their only source of light.

After many years of repeated hospitalization my 31 year old son is finishing college and has his sights set on medical school and metabolic psychiatry. As hope was running out we found Metabolic Mind and watched Dr Palmer. Now after 1.5 years of keto diet he is stable enough to be back in school with a mission to help other schizophrenics and demonstrate what is possible. Eternally grateful.
