My first Shop Mini just got approved 😍 It’s basically Shazam for outfits. You snap a picture of an outfit you like, the app finds matching products in Shopify’s catalogue (across all shops). Shop Minis are consumer facing mini apps that live directly inside @Shopify's Shop app. My previous merchant facing virtual try on app got me an invite to the Shop Mini beta, so now my Mini is one among only 7 other Minis so far 🤯 Super fun to build these, working on my second one already!

My minimal flashcards app is now live on the App Store! I started this project after a recent trip to Buenos Aires. It's optimized for the real life situations I used to handle manually: - I want to order something in a café, don't know what to say so I translate it, then add it to my flashcards - I read a book in Spanish, translate a world I don’t understand, then add it to my flashcards There's no gamification, no gimmicks. Just streamlined input and spaced repetition. Oh and it's free!

Shop Minis are genius - Global search access to the entire Shopify catalogue - Distribution to millions of Shop app users - Small scope per Mini that would not justify a standalone app but adds a useful feature to a Superapp

Apple just approved the TestFlight of my first ever iOS app 🥹 It's a purist flashcard app optimized for languages - quick voice or text input - offline translation - sm-2 spaced repetition - no gamification looking for 10 beta testers!

holy shit, i knew the claude subscription is better value for money than API credits but didn't expect the difference to be this significant just topped up $5 to bridge the time until my subscription limit resets and literally burned through it in 5 minutes

My second Shop Mini just got approved 😍 It's an interior design assistant with access to the entire @Shopify catalogue. Upload a photo of your room, pick products, and see how they'd look in your room. Building this as a standalone app would've been hard (global product search? distribution?) but as a Mini inside the Shop app it was straightforward. Long Shop Minis

Week 1 update: I shipped a Shopify app end-to-end last week, but I made a big mistake. 🫣 The app is a virtual try-on app with outfit creator. Idea seemed cool, I knew I could build it, so I put my head down and shipped. But once it got approved I realized I have no idea how to get users. And even worse: the moment I started thinking about distribution was the first time I looked closely at the competition and realized most competing apps have very few reviews, which makes me think the demand might be thin. I spent $50 on Shopify app store ads and got a single install. From a store that isn’t even live yet. So I’m back to square one. I still think Shopify apps are interesting because merchants have a much higher willingness to pay than consumers, but I’m back to researching app ideas and in parallel try to figure out how to actually reach Shopify merchants and validate ideas. Happy coincidence: there is a Shopify conference in Berlin this week, so I’ll go there, talk to merchants, and hopefully get inspired. Anyone else here building Shopify apps?
