Today we're launching Era and announcing $11M in funding. We're building the intelligence layer for a new ecosystem of AI devices — the platform that lets any device manufacturer, brand, designer, or creator make objects that think, respond, and act in their own style. We're entering a Cambrian explosion — new form factors, new creators, new objects worth desiring. Made by people who've never had the tools to make them, before today. Welcome to the new Era. Backed by @AbstractVC, @BoxGroup, @topology_vc, @betaworks, @CollaborativeFund, @MozillaVentures, and @AIResidency.
We’re officially in our new Era.

Today we introduce Plato: the ring for near-silent speech. We speak faster than we write. But we can’t always say out loud what we’re thinking. Plato turns thought into action. Dictate. Transform. Delegate. Order now: plato.it.com. Limited supply.

@lizwandersworld is bringing main character energy back to the masses. goodbye boring, mass produced form factors. hello technology that is weird, expressive, and fun.
Liz Dorman owns more than a hundred old phones. There is a 1970s Bell telephone, Siemens handsets that were released in seasonal collections like clothing, and her prized piece: a hot pink Motorola Razr signed by Paris Hilton. To Dorman, the collection is evidence that technology used to be weird, expressive, and fun, and she believes it can be again. So, she founded @eraworldsto to build what she calls "couture computing." It was so much fun talking to @lizwandersworld for @creativecpress, whose vision of what hardware should be is rooted in delight and individuality. Owning 100+ old phones reminds you that the tech world flows in regular cycles of convergence (we all use the same, boring device by 2 companies) and divergence (fun! weird! expansive! now!) The world of devices will look as diverse as the world of fashion in a few years, a cambrian world of what we are calling Couture Computing 💅 Loved talking with @thisisrayouf and @Libbiefrost about how we think about design, participation, and joy when designing a whole new era of personal computers at @eraworlds 🌱 And most importantly - why i'm even in it in the first place 🤍

Introducing the US Gov Graph - a complete map of the people and positions of power in the federal government. To fix our institutions we must understand how they work, so we are using AI to model and monitor every government in America. This is Palantir for The People. Check it out here: graph.civlab.org/us We exist to set the conditions for an era of civic excellence unmatched since the Founding. We will need nothing less to navigate the age of AI. I'm looking for exceptional engineers and designers to work with me in San Francisco. If that's you, inquire here: tally.so/r/KY97RK. Self-governing civilization is counting on you.

Introducing ACTx486, a research demo of a new interactive medium. What if you could talk to any video and ask anything? Our system took an existing podcast and turned it into something that listens, responds, and adapts. Research by @jakubzeg:

here are three startup companies that actually catch my eye and aren't just spun up for the sake of doing so: 1. @eraworlds. the founder and CEO (shoutout @lizwandersworld) used to work at humane, the company that made the ai pin before getting acquired by hp. the product is a software layer that allows for AI orchestration within devices of your own make and design. what really gravitates towards me is their eye for taste (i love love love the site), as well as their thesis surrounding the fact that anyone, including creatives, can augment AI to do magical things. 2.@opheliaapi. it surrounds an API that allows you to actually book things. consumer agents have become commoditized, and a lot of people are fighting to figure out how to master commerce and action-based plans. they’ve been building their products for years after training it and doing benchmark tests on data. most agents try to do action-based plans but end up failing and most apis are pragmatic in nature. 3. @Fort. it’s a wearable hardware company that positions itself for strength. focuses on longevity and consistency, as well as the fact that its hardware is pretty impressive: screenless and very cognizant of jewelry, so it doesn't feel like an actual wearable. most hardware companies are trying to ship units, but this one has plans to stay. let me know if there are other startups that should be top of mind!

fun fact - this space is 150 years old! used to be a printing press, then architecture studio, and now is home to the best team of humans ushering in the cambrian explosion of personal hardware when building for consumer, esp in SF, you need to work in an environment that connects you to the world outside of tech staying in touch w reality is as much a priority as making the best technical systems

the white house OSTP report cited a forthcoming piece of ours – it is out now! a taxonomy of R&D orgs: analogue.press/p/a-taxonomy-… as billions move toward new scientific institutions, we must rethink how R&D can be organized. @jainhiya_ @stuartbuck1
In an new report expected to be released later today the Trump administration will argue that directing federal funding towards individual researchers, and research that uses AI, will accelerate scientific progress faster than funding collages and universites.

many forms, many fashions, and mainly... its all going to be fun (not just toys, not just utility)
No one knows yet what the next form factor for computing will be, and yet there will be a next form factor, and it will seem obvious in retrospect.
