Withies from coppice & pollard willow, cut on a regular cycle, are part of a #wetland ecology carefully & continuously managed since #prehistory - this great image from @waterlevels replicates similar scenes every year across the millennia, only the form of transport changing teapawt.net/waterlevels/status/959…

Peatlands are one of the greatest allies & potentially one of the quickest wins in the fight against #climatechange.
By conserving & restoring peatlands globally, we can reduce emissions & revive an essential ecosystem. #WorldWetlandsDay bit.ly/2GyhNc0

On my way through #Somerset, I stopped to photograph Burrow Mump, overlooking Southlake Moor on the Somerset Levels. The fields are deliberately flooded in the winter months to attract birds, before returning to pasture in the summer. @nationaltrust

First glorious skylarks singing, while winter visiting ducks feel safe at a distance on the water - thanks to farmers for that #somersetlevels #somersetwildlife

World Curlew Day in on April 21st. What can you do to raise awareness of the decline of curlews worldwide? Please let me know. Hold a Curlew Walk to see them, Curlew Coffee Morning, Curlew Poetry competition or whatever takes your fancy. 2 species already extinct. #curlews

Wildlife hero of the week: Mark Blake @SomersetWT cares for glorious Avalon Marshes fine-tuning the water levels so that beautiful snipe delight those who wait (one below, really!) and eels can travel up weird looking brushes and move across Somerset Levels... stunning work!
