ANSWER: D) Pulmonary infarction secondary to pulmonary embolism This CXR demonstrates Hampton’s hump. A dome-shaped, pleural-based peripheral pulmonary opacity classically associated with pulmonary infarction due to PE. Why does it occur? 1️⃣ A pulmonary embolus obstructs a branch of the pulmonary artery. 2️⃣ Reduced perfusion can cause haemorrhagic pulmonary infarction. 3️⃣ The infarct produces a peripheral, wedge-shaped opacity, with its base against the pleura.
