For Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting iconic voices of our history. Today we highlight Sylvia Rivera, a Puerto Rican-Venezuelan transgender woman, who was a big advocate for Latino & LGBTQ+ rights. Her activism helped pave the way for transgender people of color.

Violent crime in DC is at its lowest level in 30 years.
We had an unacceptable spike in 2023, so we changed our laws and strategies. Now, crime levels are not only down from 2023, but from before the pandemic.
Our tactics are working, and we aren’t taking our foot off the gas.

The Administration’s actions are unprecedented, unnecessary, and unlawful.
There is no crime emergency in the District of Columbia. Violent crime in DC reached historic 30-year lows last year, and is down another 26% so far this year.
We are considering all of our options and will do what is necessary to protect the rights and safety of District residents.
