Now feels like a pretty suitable moment to speak from the heart. This season started off exactly how I had hoped but it very quickly unravelled with tough luck and poor performances. It’s been the first proper season of my career where I’ve had more bad days than good.

Another reminder that online discourse is not real life: jumping into my car after picking up my coffee today, older woman says “I love your shirt!” (I’m wearing a Merc 2024 team shirt). She says she’s a Kimi fan, I tell her I’m a George fan. I tell her I’m happy that Kimi did so well this season. She says she’s wished George had a better season and he didn’t deserve some of the bad luck he got. We talked about Austin (she went, I went on Thursday). She said she hoped it would be closer next year between the top drivers but she’s happy for Kimi. We wished each other well and parted ways.
I know I can be passionate on here and use twitter as an outlet for me and generally shithouse and banter, but I promise you that in real life outside of social media, most people are just happy to run into other fans of the sport and it’s not as tribal.
