“In life we hide the parts of ourselves we don’t want the world to see. We lock them away. We tell them no. We banish them. But here, we don’t. Welcome to Montero.” - @LilNasX #CMBYNDAY

Wow! Looks like @kennethmejiaLA was way out ahead of this one. Now imagine what kind of transparency he could provide if elected? 🤓🧾🧾🧾#MejiaForController

We need to stop counting on people who have failed us and start acting on solutions proposed by the people who have caused climate change the least but are affected by climate change the most- Indigenous & BIPOC people. #COP26

❗️Los Angeles matches political donations from LA residents at a 6:1 rate❗️ So if you donate $10, the City will donate $60. The candidate will receive $70 total! Please support: @yasmine4thecity @vasquezdulce @BryantOdegaLA @HugoForCD13 @ALforLA2022 @kennethmejiaLA

It’s cheaper to eradicate homelessness than allow it to continue. It’s cheaper to tackle climate change than allow climate collapse. It’s cheaper to provide universal healthcare than allow corporations to price gouge us. Cost was never the barrier. The profit motive itself is.

Safety backed up by threat of violence is not true safety.

“I would suggest that the mayor should implement more mental health facilitys [sic] because from being homeless it has affected us in ways that is very profound. I think that taking down the tents so abruptly is wrong.

90% of my engagement with homelessness issues comes from volunteering my time doing outreach, not "Twitter activism". And everyone I know on a dozen waitlists has the same question for all you: But where will I go?
I am not surprised by today's vote, but I am disappointed. I am disappointed @MitchOFarrell noted there was no map, nor plans for one, and voted yes anyway. I am disappointed in @kdeleon who noted there was no housing element to this ordinance and voted yes anyway.

Shameful vote out of city council today. Thank you @nithyavraman and @mikebonin for standing with the people.
BREAKING: Every City Councilmember has voted to criminalize homelessness except for @mikebonin and @nithyavraman. 41.18 will become the law unless @MayorOfLA vetoes it.

LA city council is currently voting to increase the area policed by LAPD by 10%, essentially voting to make existing as a homeless person a crime. My opponent @MitchOFarrell, incumbent of 8 years, is a major part of this push. We’re not gonna let this go down without a fight

This is the level of abject cruelty @JoeBuscaino is seeking to embrace. He does not have housing to offer. He does not care to offer sustained outreach. @mridleythomas @PaulKrekorian it does not matter if you plan to use this power responsibly. Your colleague has stated he won't.

Rather than support housed and unhoused tenants facing precarity and eviction, @mridleythomas and most of city council are pushing for MORE banishment and criminalization that unjustly target unhoused communities. Who has a #Right2Rest in Los Angeles?

The hatred of unhoused people in this country is so deep seated that a city would rather spend millions to prevent them from looking through trash cans than use that money to house them. There is a sickness in this country and me and the homies aim to remedy it.

Key word: cost of survival. It’s no longer cost of living: we are all trying to survive.
Property values are going up. The rent is going up. The cost of survival is going up. But wages are staying stagnant, and communities of color are being gentrified out. You can’t untangle economic justice from housing justice.
