For a few years now we’ve talked about how Wommack’s defense at Bama is built to stop the Auburns and Tennessees but not the Georgias. So how did Heupel outcoach Bama? Because Tennessee fans were right to say they could adapt to be Georgia, and Bama couldn’t. Let me explain.
Tennessee QB George MacIntyre: "Bama, we knew they were going to play really soft on the outside. By soft, I mean, like, deep — not really letting any shots over the top. I felt like their game plan was just to keep having [us] snap it again, snap it again and make us sustain drives. And I feel like, especially in the second half, that's what we did." 247sports.com/college/alabam…

I don’t know who or what needs to change but that wasn’t the brand of ball that we’ve all grown accustomed to seeing coming out of Tuscaloosa. I can take losing to UGA in a hard fought game. But this today wasn’t Alabama football. And I know week to week it’s hard but we still gotta give ourselves a chance to be successful. We did not by no means today.

The thing about 24 that bothers me most is… Who is this for? It’s not because TV was begging for it. ESPN had to be convinced. It’s not for a boatload of new cash. Losing conf champ games is gonna make this a minimal gain. It’s not because the 22nd team has any shot at a natty. It doesn’t. It’s certainly not done with the health, safety, or academic success of the players in mind since they don’t even get a say in this. It’s entirely to appease the people donating the money that keeps a financially irresponsible business model afloat. It’s discounting success so schools can say “look what your donation bought.” It’s an industry hellbent on treating investors and bosses as the customer, and customers as an infinite resource that will keep coming back no matter what.

Please reply to this tweet about how much you hate the 24 team playoff and in 5 years i'll save the replies and show you how foolish you were.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Danny Kanell himself said “going past 12 teams in 2 years feels rushed and irrational” in July 2025 while criticizing a smaller format (16 teams) than the 24 team format x.com/dannykanell/st…

With the SEC Championship officially coming to an end after 2026, this feels like a good time to remind everyone that Mike DuBose won an SEC Championship more recently than Tennessee.

The 2013 Kick Six ended Alabama’s shot at a three-peat. Bama finished No. 3 in the BCS rankings. Under a 24-team playoff, they’d have gotten a FIRST-ROUND BYE. Auburn pulls off a miracle and Alabama gets a week off. Are we really okay with that? #Stop24

This angle of Keelon Russell’s famous throw against Georgia is SOMETHING ELSE. One of the CRAZIEST THROWS the sport has ever seen, regardless of the level 🤯🔥 (Via nichetonotable/IG)

You can’t talk about Alabama-Tennessee week without this shot of Reuben Foster ripping a cig instead of the stogie.
