From a college coach on my show: if the team is due at the cages at ten for an eleven fifteen game, was he there. Batting gloves on. Dressed right. Did he thank the coach who threw him BP or walk off. Did he help pick up the balls. The reason is not manners. With small staffs and limited hours, coaches need players they can trust to prepare unsupervised. Trust is the evaluation.

The fear is always the same: he will fall behind the kids playing fall ball. Forty years of watching says otherwise. The athlete comes back in November hungry, fresh, and stronger, while the year-round player comes back with a tired arm and a stale swing. Absence is not falling behind.

Here's a good look at @TheCanesSW_NTX Broadway 2027's August Lahue Jr (@jr_lahue) on the hill at the #FiveToolWS. The RHP tossed a complete game with 8K and no runs allowed on 4 hits.
