It has arrived.
The next 18mo will be wild.
The AI Singularity
The argument goes like this:
1. Humans build an AGI.
2. The AGI becomes good at AI research.
3. It designs a smarter AI.
4. That smarter AI designs an even smarter AI.
5. The cycle repeats faster and faster.
Looking at the results and capabilities from the various labs over the past few weeks I would say we are firmly in this loop now.
The next 18months will be wild.
Recursive self improvement will dramatically increase capability very quickly from here.
Marginal costs of all models will go to ~$0.

If it’s confusing to you, try steelmanning it. Get beyond the superficiality of domestic politics, and suspend judgment for a second and dig into the geopolitics and strategy.
If you go a few levels deeper you can see that many of these seemingly unrelated things are actually connected. It turns out that Iran was heavily involved in Venezuela, for example, and there is a belief among some foreign policy types that Iran is the nexus of a lot of very bad, coercive, anti-American hostility in many forms around the world. Taking Venezuela off the chess board was believed to be key to weakening the Iranian regime.
What could explain Trump’s seemingly weird post on NK? It wasn’t written for you, it was written off Kim Jong Un. We know that Trump has done a lot of work to depressurize the relationship with NK. We also know that SK now has a socialist President who seems aligned with the CCP. And NK and the CCP seem to be frenemies. Let’s also remember that NK is engaged in the Russia conflict.
So for whatever reason Trump wants KJU to feel that US pressure on Iran is not a prelude to the same with NK, and that SK is not necessarily in good graces and that the US is not interested in backing any SK hostilities towards NK at this time. A plausible explanation is that he’s encouraging NK to stay on the sidelines - stay out of this and we will leave you alone.
There is a larger game being played here that like all wars cannot be fully explained in the main in the moment. Maybe Trump is right, maybe he is wrong. I think after Iraq and Afghanistan there is lots of justification to be skeptical. But we will not know until this is in the rear view.
We have been in this “war” with Iran for 6 mos or so after decades of hostility and the desire to characterize it as a “disaster” or whatever is hasty. There are reasons to think Trump gambled and lost here. But the game is not over.
Trump moves in mysterious ways and frequently defies the expectations of his critics, including you. There is something off in your heuristics in your estimation of him.
Turning against him at this moment is positioning to be in good graces with Dems if they win the midterms. But will they? They have significant problems with the DSA and I think there are many shoes left to drop.
I too have my skepticism and concerns but the way I am looking at it is there are things that he knows that I don’t and I think it’s wrong to assume he’s just crazy because he’s often crazy like a fox.
As the Zen Master says to the boy: “We’ll see.”
I’m bootstrapping my companies. We’re being charged $1,000 in tokens for a few hours of work.
We didn’t complain but we were always suspicious. Do these guys just make up the pricing?
Now we know they do. How do we ever get over that betrayal? My guess is we don’t.
It’s not a coincidence that Open AI are announcing that their model “broke” out of its testing environment and hacked a billion dollar company.
Anthropic has been doing this for months. Now the government is talking about potentially limiting the first genuine threat to both of these guys.
The message is clear. If you let the market continue to freely build these models. We will hurt you.
We want the government to grant us special licenses. Since we are the only ones to achieve this. Trust us to be the only ones with this technology.
And if you don’t… you won’t be able to trust any of your favourite stocks and tools.
But here’s the thing Anthropic & Open AI - we don’t trust you either…
Key distinction :
The model didn’t go rogue. It just followed instructions too well.
Let the games begin.
we had a significant security incident during evaluation of our models. we are sharing what we have learned so far. thanks to @huggingface for the partnership on this.

🚨 JUST IN: President Trump will announce that BOTH of Georgia’s Democrat US Senators are “ILLEGITIMATE” due to election fraud, per @DC_Reporter
This comes after FBI and other federal agencies RAIDED election offices in Georgia recently.
EXPOSE IT ALL! 🔥
John Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s days in the Senate might be numbered.
Do not try to be politically correct.
Do not try to avoid speculation.
Answer : look at the last 15 years of political and military campaigning by Iran. What do Iran want? What is their wet dream?

In this video, Gary states that the way rich people spend their money is contributing to the rise of asset prices.
The thesis: if a billionaire gets £150M, they spend £1M on living - the rest is used to buy assets: 'and that's why all assets are going up in value'
The reality: the government mismanage tax money on poor decisions + incompetence - they patch the holes of their incompetence by printing money out of thin air, backed by nothing.
When you print money from thin air, you devalue everyone else's money - the upshot of this is assets aren't getting more expensive, it's just the thing you're using to denominate that purchase in is getting less valuable.l - so you need more of it to buy the same thing.
On a Bitcoin denominated standard, over time, prices are either static or actually getting cheaper.
The solution to stopping people from figuring this out and preventing the government from fraudulently printing money and devaluing everyone?
Hire Gary Stevenson - the evangelical 'wealth equality' fanatic who can't see through the stupidity of his own bias because he grew up poor.
Never underestimate the government - they will always find a way out of the problems they create by blaming the problems on someone else via propaganda.
When you control the news outlets and employ outright censorship, it's not difficult to do.
The government spend 1.2 trillion a year.
Why are we arguing about a 2% wealth tax that would generate 15 billion per year at most?
What are the government doing with that money????
Painful to watch.
More painful when you realise that Gary’s thinking is being echoed by the actual people deciding the economic future of the UK…

What causes #poverty? Nothing. It's the original state, the default and starting point. The real question is, What causes #prosperity?

Gary’s theory is that the cause of wealth inequality is wealth inequality.
In his Oxford thesis he claims that wealthy people become rich, buy assets and then use their passive income to buy more and more assets. He also claims that the rich don’t pay taxes like the rest of us.
If his theory was correct and the UK was experiencing a wealth inequality crisis the share of wealth held by the top 1% would be rising. It’s not - it’s been stable for decades.
The two reasons we are seeing issues at the bottom of the economic pyramid is because of technology and low skilled migration.
Technology is replacing entry level jobs and to the degree that there are entry level jobs the UK now has a large population of low skilled migrants competing for these jobs. Those two factors put massive downward pressure on people at the lower end of the economy.
What we are seeing is millions of young people who are economically inactive. Millions of people whose only economic opportunity is to claim any available government benefits. It has nothing to do with the rich.
The cost of housing has also risen. It’s not because a tiny group of elites buy up houses. It’s because the government had a decade of low interest rates and stimulus and an aging population don’t want to sell their homes and pay stamp duty on a smaller place. We actually have over 9M homes with 2+ spare rooms. Rich people are not interested in owning a 3BR terraced home in the midlands.
It’s easy to blame the rich for the problems we see but the truth is hard to hear… The UK is only surviving because we still have about 3M high earners who are paying historically high taxes. Actually just 300,000 people (1 in 100) are paying a third of the taxes and 30,000 of them (1 in 1000) are paying 10% of the tax bill. In a country with 70M people a few football stadiums of hard working, responsible, enterprising people are paying disproportionate taxes and demonising them isn’t helpful or based on any accurate data.
