The Swastikas that appeared recently on homes and synagogues in Queens are not random acts of vandalism. They are message crimes — designed to intimidate, to mark Jews as targets, and to test the boundaries of what a society will tolerate. The question is not whether we condemn this incident. The question is whether we are willing to prevent the next one. And they demand a comprehensive response. Law enforcement must respond swiftly and decisively, but enforcement alone is not enough. We need interventions that address not just the act itself, but the conditions that allow it to feel permissible. That means serious investment in education, civic leadership that names the problem without euphemism, and a refusal to treat antisemitism as incidental or peripheral. The question is not whether we condemn this incident. The question is whether we are willing to prevent the next one. Thank you to @SpeakerMenin, @Lynn4NYC, and @PhilWongNYC for standing with the Jewish community and making clear that this line will not be crossed without consequence.

The pre-school at Park East Synagogue was forced to close early because it could not ensure safe dismissal. When children can’t safely leave school, something is deeply wrong. This is unacceptable.
Anti-Zionist group PAL-Awda plans to protest the "Great Israel Real Estate Event" tonight at Park East Synagogue. Comes after council passed a bill further regulating protests outside houses of worship (but with a 90-day delay, so bill's not in effect yet) timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…

Jewish American Heritage Month is a time to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Jewish Americans woven into the fabric of our nation for centuries. This month, we celebrate that legacy and recommit to standing firm against the scourge of antisemitism.

As Jewish American Heritage Month begins, we’re celebrating the generations of Jewish New Yorkers who have shaped our city’s history, from Barbra Streisand, a Brooklyn-born icon, to Jonas Salk, whose work transformed public health, to Bella Abzug, a trailblazing leader for women’s rights and social justice. As a proud Jewish New Yorker and the first Jewish Speaker of the City Council, I'm committed to fighting antisemitism and celebrating our diverse Jewish communities across every borough.

Today, I joined Borough Park community leaders to tour the park that was vandalized with antisemitic graffiti twice this week. While children played nearby, I saw the playground that dozens of swastikas were painted onto. These abhorrent incidents are part of an alarming trend, underscoring the importance of the @NYCCouncil’s five-point plan to combat antisemitism and strengthen community safety.

I’m disgusted by this antisemitic graffiti in Borough Park — painted onto a playground, of all places. Days ago, I announced the @NYCCouncil’s five-point action plan to combat antisemitism. Abhorrent behavior such as this, reported on a near-daily basis, shows why our plan and legislation are so urgently needed.
Same park different day. A day later and this is what happened. We are requesting that @NYPDHateCrimes pull out all the stops to catch these vile Jew haters.

This morning, I’m announcing the @NYCCouncil’s five-point plan to combat antisemitism. We’re taking decisive action to invest in education, strengthen protections for schools and houses of worship, support community safety, and ensure we have the tools to confront hatred.

Congratulations to @SpeakerMenin on being sworn in as the first Jewish Speaker of the @NYCCouncil. At a time of rising antisemitism and intolerance, this moment reflects the enduring importance of representation, civic leadership, and democratic participation. The SWC looks forward to continued engagement with Speaker Menin, the City Council, and leaders committed to protecting pluralism, combating hate, and strengthening our shared civic values.

Two years. Two years passed since the last moment I saw Avinatan, the love of my life. Two years since the moment terrorists kidnapped us, put me on a motorcycle, and tore me away from Avinatan before the eyes of the entire world. From that moment, our journey in captivity was separated. I was held captive with children, women, and the elderly, while Avinatan was held alone. I was mostly kept inside houses, while Avinatan was only in the tunnels. Hamas released videos and signs of life from me, while there was no information at all about Avinatan. I was held captive by Hamas for 246 days, while Avinatan was held for 738 days. I came back in a heroic rescue operation, and Avinatan returned in a deal. But both of us, against all odds, came home and were reunited! I cannot put into words the range of emotions I felt when I saw him for the first time after so long. Each of us faced death countless times, and yet, after two years apart, we are finally taking our first steps together again in the State of Israel. At last, we can begin our healing together. The recovery will be long; we still haven’t truly processed what has happened here over these past two years. But we won. We won our personal war, and the war of all those who fought alongside us to reach this moment. And now, the time has come to begin our shared journey together. I want to say a huge thank you, first and foremost, to the @IDF soldiers and security forces who have been fighting for so long and risk their lives for us every single day. Thank you to our family, friends, and to the people of Israel, Am Yisrael, who raised their voices when we couldn’t speak. To the people around the world who embraced us, to all the incredible individuals who supported us through the hardest times and never lost hope throughout this long period. To the US government, which opened its doors to me and was always there to listen, especially @SEPeaceMissions Steve Witkoff, @jaredkushner, and the exceptional, President @realDonaldTrump. To all the people who too stood beside our hostages and understood that light must overcome darkness. We will never forget the fallen and the murdered, and we will not stop fighting until every fallen soldier and hostage is brought home for a proper burial in Israel. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This could never have happened without you. We are back ❤️

I care deeply about the future of our city, and since leaving office, it has been difficult to watch its struggles, especially since the pandemic. In sizing up the field in the race for mayor, there is one candidate whose management experience and government know-how stand above the others: @andrewcuomo. History holds endless examples of friction between mayors and governors. During my 12 years in City Hall, I served with four New York governors and had differences with all of them, including Cuomo. But I also know his strengths as a leader and manager. Of all the candidates, Andrew has the skills our city needs to lead us forward. He has decades of experience navigating state and federal governments. He has governed as a pragmatist, focused on solving problems rather than engaging in ideological or partisan warfare. And he has shown that he can get big things done, including the redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport, the opening of the 2nd Avenue Subway, and the creation of Moynihan Station – all long-stalled projects that he jump-started and completed. The question before New Yorkers is not: Who is the perfect choice? No mayor is perfect. The question is: Who is the best choice? To me, that choice is clear: Andrew Cuomo.

NY City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani announced a plan to ignore State & Federal law in order to enact BDS and enforce ICC "to comply with international law." If your hatred for Israel is more important than following American law, you shouldn't be elected to public office.

When you call to globalize the intifada and call Israel a genocidal, Apartheid state you are giving license to come after Jews. Period. Full stop. Hate foments hate. It is spreading like a cancer through the body politic. This rhetoric is dangerous as we’ve seen in DC and Boulder and elsewhere and must be disavowed.
UJA, @JCRCNY, @AJCGlobal New York, and @ADL_NYNJ call on all candidates in the New York City mayoral race to unequivocally condemn dangerous rhetoric that has inspired deadly acts against Jews in Colorado, D.C., and Pennsylvania. Read the full statement: ujafedny.org/news/jewish-org…

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has publicly endorsed the barbaric murder of a young Jewish and Israeli couple. Its call to “Free Elias Rodriguez” is a grotesque attempt to glorify a cold-blooded murderer. After being shot, Sarah Milgrim struggled to crawl away. Elias Rodriguez walked over and executed her at point-blank range. This is the antisemitic demon the DSA has chosen to lionize.

This must be denounced for the insulting and revolting disregard for human life and legal standards that it is. This was an obvious and blatant hate crime for which this nation must have zero tolerance. Elias Rodriguez is not a "political prisoner", he is charged with murder My opponents in the Mayor's race are either members of the Democratic Socialists of America or are supported by/have supported DSA members and I call on them to denounce this inflammatory position which is abhorrent to the Jewish community and all law abiding Americans
Excellent statement that we are proud to add our name to. Free Elias Rodriguez and all political prisoners.
