So a lot of people are going to get flagged by Traffitech and genuinely won't know why. 😂 You see, the speed your car tells you you're doing and the speed you're ACTUALLY doing aren't necessarily the same thing. Let me explain... 1. TYRE SIZES That your nice Abodsey Okai rim and tyres? Yeah... it could be lying to you. 😂 Your speedometer is calibrated based on your car's original tyre specifications. Change the overall diameter of your tyres and you could throw your speedometer readings off. Larger tyres could mean you're moving faster than your dashboard says. Smaller tyres could have the opposite effect. And no, changing from rims 17 to 19 isn't necessarily the problem. It's the whole tyre diameter that matters. 2. UNCALIBRATED SPEEDOMETERS Some of us are driving cars that are older than some of the people reading this post. 😂 Faulty sensors, incorrect coding, modifications... all these can affect speedometer accuracy. Even brand-new cars don't necessarily display your EXACT speed. Most are designed to slightly overread. So your dashboard might say 100 km/h when you're actually doing 96. But with certain faults or modifications on your car, the reverse can happen. 3. MPH vs KM/H As for this one! 😂😂😂 Especially those of you driving American imports. I heard someone say they were doing 60 but the car was moving too fast. 🤣🤣🤣 Please... MPH and KM/H are NOT the same thing! 60 MPH is approximately 97 KM/H. 80 MPH is approximately 129 KM/H. 100 MPH is approximately 161 KM/H. So you think you're doing 80... meanwhile you're practically doing 130. 🤣 And some cars have BOTH units on the speedometer, so make sure you know which one you're reading. 4. GPS SPEED vs DASHBOARD SPEED Ever noticed your Google Maps or Waze showing a different speed from your dashboard? There's a reason. Your car typically calculates speed using wheel rotation, while GPS estimates your movement using satellites. Under good conditions and at a steady speed, GPS can be a useful way to cross-check your speedometer. It's not perfect either, but if your dashboard says 110 and your GPS consistently says 120... Charlie, you might want to investigate. 😂 So depending on what you've changed, your speedometer might not be telling you the whole truth. And before someone comes to tell me their mechanic said everything is fine... Your fitter saying "Boss, everything be okay" is not a certificate of proof. 🤣 Now here's where I'm going with all this... Traffitech is introducing automated traffic enforcement, and I suspect quite a number of us are about to discover things about our cars they never knew. But there's another side to this conversation. WHO IS CALIBRATING THE CAMERAS? How frequently will they be tested? What margins of error are being applied? Are the devices independently certified? And if I dispute a speeding ticket, what evidence will be made available to me? Me I'm asking because if you're going to fine me for exceeding a speed limit by a few kilometres per hour, I want to be absolutely certain your equipment isn't the one getting its mathematics wrong. We can't demand accuracy from motorists and not treat the accuracy of enforcement equipment the same. And while we're at it, can we also make sure speed limits are clearly and consistently signposted? Can we INDICATE where the cameras are? Elsewhere there are signs. Then again, you can't expect people to obey limits they haven't been adequately informed about. I'm all for technology improving road safety. But technology should make enforcement more accurate, not simply make the collection of fines more efficient. Anyway... check your tyres, check your speedometer, know your speed limits and, for the love of everything mechanical, know the difference between MPH and KM/H. Otherwise, that SMS might teach you a very expensive physics lesson. 😂
I tried obeying the speed limits today… EVERYBODY passed me. 😭 Okadas, Pragya, trotros, taxis, private cars… EVERYBODY! 😂 If Traffitech really takes full effect from October 1st, Ghana Prisons Service better start expanding Nsawam. We’re all going to jail. 😭😂

Live in Ghana long enough and you'll understand there's nothing more permanent than a temporary "solution."

This is basically my beef with Traffictech. The state makes compliance difficult through its failures, and is now taxing non-compliance.
Ghana is actually a very big circus. This reminds me of a matter I came across. The summary is: There is a huge pothole in the road. The kind of pothole you can’t drive through. Driver tries to avoid said pothole. Police arrests him for driving in the wrong lane😂

Before Traffitech went live, we challenged the Police to fix some of the logical glitches. We pleaded with them not to succumb to katanomics. Of course, they won't listen. But all the same, we have decided to document the issues for posterity. brightsimons.com/2026/11/tra…

I genuinely didn't see this coming! 😳 As someone who advocates for technology and public policies that improve lives, this Traffitech-GH revelation has changed how I look at the initiative. Ghana's Ministry of Finance reports that 40% of traffic fine revenue is earmarked for a private company, Nationwide Traffic Management and Enforcement Ltd (NTMEL), while the government receives 60%. And who owns NTMEL? • Frank Osei, Ghanaian entrepreneur: 60% • Sensys Gatso, Swedish traffic technology company: 40%. The contract runs for 11 years, from December 2022 to December 2033, with an estimated project investment of GH¢77.73 million. I've always supported technology that makes our roads safer. But this raises serious questions for me. If a private operator earns more when motorists commit more offences, how do we ensure road safety remains the priority, not revenue generation? What happens to poorly marked roads, missing speed-limit signs and unclear school zones? I'm not against Traffitech. I'm questioning the incentives behind its implementation. Are we building a safer road network or a revenue-generating enforcement system? Ghanaians deserve transparency on this arrangement. ghanaguardian.com/ghanas-sms… myjoyonline.com/traffitech-k…

Ah. On top of the actual fines, we’re being charged to CHECK if the fines exist?
Can’t believe that, if I need to check for my fines using *220#, it will cost me a biggggggggggg ghc 0.20p per every car I check.

A speed limit is an upper limit. A speed which, if you cross, means you're going too fast. I don't see how 80km/h on the Mahama road is unreasonable. And the fact that the speed limit says 80 doesn't mean you personally can't drive at 50. If you take a closer look, you'd realise that more road accidents are caused by poor road infrastructure than by speed itself: Broken traffic lights Damaged or no streetlights Massive potholes Ramps with no signages No proper and available pedestrian crosses. Sometimes, even poor road design. And on intercity highway stretches, single lanes when they should be double. The problem in Ghana is we reduce almost every form of reckless driving to 'speeding'.

The GIMPA Bypass has gained notoriety as a haven for armed robbers and petty thieves. Yet, the road remains without streetlights, with only one police checkpoint stationed at one of its entry points at night. Motorists are expected to drive at 50 km/h on this poorly lit road, effectively increasing their exposure to criminals who lurk in the surrounding bushes. It makes no sense to me and I am inclined to agree with those who argue that Traffitech is more about revenue generation than road safety.

The traffic light from Shiashie towards Okponglo doesn’t even show green again. You’re approaching it and the red just lights up like that time of the month

If your VERY FIRST reaction to watching a horrific Learjet crash is “That looks fake,” “It was a missile,” or “Where’s the debris?” then congratulations. You’ve just identified yourself as the perfect mark for every conspiracy grifter on the internet. It’s the same breathtaking stupidity that gave us the 9/11 Pentagon “missile” and “missing debris” conspiracy theories. A horrific tragedy unfolds before your eyes, and before you know a single fact, your first instinct is to invent a conspiracy. STFU & GTFO! You’re not “just asking questions.” You’re broadcasting your ignorance, your gullibility, and your complete inability to distinguish evidence from bullshit. And the people exploiting these tragedies know EXACTLY who you are. They know how to manipulate you, outrage you, and keep you coming back for another helping of manufactured mystery. They turn human suffering into conspiracy content, and you eagerly spread it for them. You think you’re exposing a cover-up. You’re actually exposing how easily you can be played. The grifters have a product. You’re the customer.
