The romantasy-comedy-fable ‘Wicker’ hits theaters this week, but it has been a source of horny internet fascination for months, due largely to the fact that it stars Alexander Skarsgård as a man made entirely of wicker, complete with a rock-hard wicker dick that catapults Olivia Colman into paroxysms of bed-breaking ecstasy.
But what about the splinters? Bacteria? Degradation? Would it be advisable, from a sexual-health perspective, to mount a basket dick? Rachel Handler calls up Dr. Lauren Streicher — professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University, sexual health and menopause expert, and author of multiple books on women’s health — to find out: nymag.visitlink.me/kAGkKB
This is a really interesting debate. Depending on the story, keep your notes for at least a year, but also use the guidance your outlet's legal counsel provides.
But there's also a slippery slope of releasing notes/audio every time someone questions reporting.
I trust the Times over Holmes/Evans on the accuracy of the quote. But I gotta say, the idea of doing a profile of someone this well-known, with a reputation for dishonesty, and not recording, gives me hives. This is exactly why you record!

In the movie, is framed as a crazy ask, but you wouldn’t believe how often people ask to get paid for doing interviews - and that’s boring written journalism! The idea you’d get paid to participate in a documentary is probably the default assumption for most people!
I loved “You Can See Everything.” But it left a sour taste: why would it be unethical for Holmes and Evans to get paid??
This is not a straight documentary. Fielder is shaping a performance amongst the 3 of them. So the conventional journalistic prohibition on paying sources doesn’t clearly apply. Framing A24’s financial interest as the neutral business of making a movie, while Evans’s as a moral failing feels flawed.
And then the part that gets sour is turning that negotiation into material. Which is quintessential Nathan Fielder, but AGAIN makes any appeal to conventional documentary ethics even less convincing.
I just ordered John Carreyrou’s book and I sincerely hope he enjoys this nice little boost he’s getting and rightfully deserves.

A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.
A ton of people have asked me for my thoughts about “You Can See Everything,” the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary. Here they are: nytimes.com/2026/10/17/busin… via @NYTimes
I will get on the phone or a zoom to talk about Nathan Fielder. I went to watch by myself and I knew I should I have just stayed in my seat and started to talk to the stranger next to me who was reacting as hard as I was.
Important bookmark if you go see Nathan Fielder doc.

The Shane Gillis monologue was not good, but that’s the shtick. Lorne Michaels cares that he’s “the most popular comedian in America.” And he might care more about that F-bomb he dropped in a skit later in the show.
Back in my marathon days, I used to do 10+ mile training runs anytime it was very cold and/or rainy because I hate being cold and wet more than I hate being mildly bored. It's not that bad.
Most distance runners would shudder at the thought of grinding away on a machine so boring it has earned the nickname “dreadmill.”
But for Vinny Mauri, the treadmill turned out to be far more than the workout machine of last resort.
