Imagine touching grass and it made you sound like you need to touch more than you did before. Relax.
I went for a walk this evening, in the dark.
Miles into the woods. Cold wind blowing through branches losing their leaves. New ones will grow, but they’ll never be these. The temperature was more than weather.
I arrived and stood in front of them.
I once a sapling, now standing there. I placed my hand on the keeper of the gate. Thanked him for calling. He knew I’d come. He sensed I was near.
I placed my hand on the one that is not what it once was. Pained by whatever the years did to make it the shell it is now. I’ve always felt its pain, tonight it felt mine, and it knew why I see what others do not.
Then I stood before her. Placed my hand and said nothing. Just felt all I needed to say. She knew this time would come and I’d finally understand the lesson in the three trees that stood here long before this path was walked, and will be here long after we stop walking upon it.
I whispered a thank you, for the lesson that was taught. It was all that was needed.
I returned to my old friend. Placed my hand back on him. Said, “Time heals all things, even you. It is not for us to forget”
Walked past the keeper of the gate. We knew what this moment meant. The call that sparked it all.
Sometimes the most profound moments can be found in the simplest of things. We are all of the earth, we are all of the stars. Life is beautiful, even with its scars.
