None of Cormac McCarthy's first five novels sold more than 5,000 hardcover copies. That includes Blood Meridian, remaindered after netting just 1,883! Yet his editor & publisher stuck by him, & he persevered. RIP Mr. McCarthy, you were a legend

Great democratic nations depend on an active citizenry, one that is able to peacefully protest, confront injustice and generate momentum for change when it is needed. The proposed laws undermine hard fought for rights to protest peacefully without fear of sanction or persecution.
We're proud to be one of 80 signatories to the open letter in today's @theTiser. SA's record of progress arising from the work of the labour, environmental, and civil society movements is an enviable one - & peaceful protest has often been vital in achieving this. #ProtectProtest
