“Effect of Cannabis Legalization in Canada on the Incidence of Psychosis Consultations”
The share of psychosis cases where cannabis use was detected stayed almost the same: 36% before legalization vs. 37.7% after. This was not a significant difference.
Looking at smaller groups (by age or gender), there were no clear differences either.
Overall, legalization did not clearly increase the proportion of psychosis ED visits linked to cannabis use in Quebec City during the first year.
“The present study observed no increase in the proportion of ED consultations for a psychotic episode in which evidence for cannabis consumption was obtained before and after legalization, which is in line with previous studies stating that legalization had no significative impact on ED's consultations for psychosis."

Could this natural compound stop Alzheimer's in its tracks?
β-caryophyllene (BCP) is a natural compound that interacts with CB2 receptors in the body, known for reducing inflammation and protecting nerve cells.
BCP protected human brain immune cells (microglia) from damage caused by β-amyloid.
It reduced harmful inflammation by lowering levels of inflammatory molecules (TNF-α, IL-6) and increasing an anti-inflammatory molecule (IL-10).
BCP blocked a key inflammation pathway (NF-κB), likely by activating both CB2 and PPARγ receptors together.
It boosted proteins (SIRT1, PGC-1α, BDNF) that support brain cell health and growth.
In brain tissue samples, BCP reversed β-amyloid’s damage to BDNF levels and improved synaptic function (important for learning and memory).
Why it matters? BCP shows promise as a natural treatment for reducing brain inflammation and protecting against nerve damage in Alzheimer’s, suggesting it could be explored for future medical use.

"No evidence to suggest cannabis use causes schizophrenia-so why do some people think it does?"
Schizophrenia is a neuro developmental disorder rooted in fetal brain development (malformed structures, no signs of later damage like gliosis).
Affected individuals may self-medicate with cannabis due to early social distress/isolation.
Cannabis boosts dopamine and can trigger or worsen symptoms in those already predisposed.
Claims of causation rely on correlational studies (which cannot prove cause) that media often overstate, creating unnecessary parental worry.

Cannabis vs Brain-Eating Parasites?
This study finds Cannabis sativa & cannabinoids actually kill deadly parasites!
Parasites they tested against brain infections (protozoan parasites):
amoebic brain disease, cerebral malaria, brain toxoplasmosis, Chagas disease, and leishmaniasis.
Worm infections (helminths): mainly Nippostrongylus and schistosomiasis. Even ticks (Boophilus).
Main finding Cannabis extracts and cannabinoids often kill or slow down these parasites – this effect is fairly consistent across studies.
Important caution The body’s own cannabinoid system (CB1/CB2 receptors) is involved. Blocking or activating these receptors sometimes helped the animal fight the infection, but in other cases it made the infection worse or reduced survival. The outcome depends on the specific parasite.

23,000 medical cannabis patients tracked: Only 14 poisonings and 26 mental health ER visits!
Out of ~23,000 patients followed for about 8 months:
Only 14 had cannabis poisoning (~8 cases per 10,000 people per year)
Only 26 had cannabis-related mental/behavioral issues (~15 cases per 10,000 people per year)
Higher risk for mental problems linked to prior substance use issues, other mental disorders, age, diabetes, and COPD.
Overall, serious cannabis-related ER/hospital visits were uncommon.

Could CBD help shield the brain from meth damage?
Meth is a common stimulant that damages the brain through oxidative stress, inflammation, energy-cell failure, disrupted cell cleanup/death, and chemical messenger imbalances.
Few effective treatments exist for this damage, creating a need for safer options.
CBD protects the brain via multiple pathways.
This review summarizes evidence that CBD counters meth toxicity by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, stabilizing cell energy, balancing cell cleanup/death, and supporting neurotransmitter function.

Massive study of 63 million people finds no significant rise in psychosis diagnoses or antipsychotic use after states legalized cannabis!
Researchers checked if states that legalized medical or recreational cannabis (with or without retail stores) saw more psychosis diagnoses or antipsychotic prescriptions.
Overall, there was no statistically significant increase in these outcomes in legalizing states versus states without such laws.
Conclusion: The data do not support a link between cannabis legalization policies and higher rates of psychosis-related health care claims; more research is still suggested.

Purified CBD worked just as well off-label: 63% of kids had ≥50% fewer seizures!
Epidiolex (purified CBD) is FDA-approved for seizures in three rare childhood epilepsy syndromes (Lennox-Gastaut, Dravet, tuberous sclerosis) in kids 1+.
Many other kids with hard-to-treat epilepsy still receive it off-label.
Of 144 kids with usable data, 56% had an approved diagnosis and 44% did not; average age ~10, usually on 3 other seizure meds.
Roughly the same share of kids in both groups (about 63–65%) saw at least a 50% drop in seizures.

I have a dear friend who just had a knee replacement and was in terrible pain for weeks. Opioids didn't help much. I urged her to consult with her doctor about using CBD, but do to stigma, she wouldn't do it. Sad.
A randomized clinical trial published today found that patients given 400 mg of CBD following bilateral knee replacement surgery used fewer opioids and reported less pain than those receiving a placebo. themarijuanaherald.com/2026/…
My wish is to have AI design specific health regimes tailored to the individual.
We don't have a health care system, we have a sick care system. We need to transit to tailored systems to prevent diseases and illnesses, rather than the current system - proactive rather than reactive.
AI x bio has had an insane week.
> Radical Numerics: Omnii-1 designed phages given to a human patient
> Claude: 17 scorpion-toxin binders validated in the lab
> OpenAI: acquired Orchestra Bio
> OpenAI + PerturbAI: agents found new neurodegeneration leads in 32 minutes
> RFD4-Proteina: open programmable protein design model
> BioEmu2: new biomolecular simulation model
> Chaperone: agent framework connecting 50+ protein design tools
> Xaira: launched X-Scientist for agentic drug discovery
> Sophont: Holon-S1 predicts gene activity from pathology slides

Brain tumors shrink dramatically when treated with cannabis compounds!
Glioblastoma (brain cancer): Cannabinoids alone worked very well – they significantly shrank tumors.
Adding them to the standard drug temozolomide also helped.
Breast cancer: Cannabinoids reduced tumor size noticeably.
Synthetic cannabinoids + doxorubicin (a common chemo drug): Showed the biggest tumor shrinkage in breast cancer models.
Lung cancer and prostate cancer: Also showed good, significant tumor reduction.

Could CBD be a game-changer for Parkinson’s?
CBD helped more cells survive and reduced cell death caused by 6-HODA.
It lowered harmful ROS and cell membrane damage (MDA).
It boosted the cells’ antioxidant defenses (higher SOD, GSH, and total antioxidant capacity).
It increased protective genes (Nrf2, Bcl-2) and reduced harmful genes (Bax, Casp3). What does it mean?
It may protect nerve cells from damage like that seen in Parkinson’s disease.
It works by activating a pathway (Nrf2) that helps cells fight oxidative stress and damage.

Cannabinoids Protect Against Tau Protein Damage
Substance abuse like alcohol and opioids can hyper phosphorylate tau protein, leading to brain decline similar to Alzheimer's.
But cannabinoids may protect by calming enzymes, reducing inflammation, and boosting brain flexibility (neuro plasticity).
This highlights cannabis's potential in countering drug-induced neuro degeneration.

CBD Keeps Stem Cells Youthful for Brain Repair!
CBD slows cellular aging in stem cells, which are vital for tissue repair and brain regeneration.
It boosts SIRT1 (a "youth protein"), enhances autophagy (cellular cleanup), preserves stem cell potency, reduces aging markers, and protects telomeres.
This anti-aging effect could support long-term brain health.

Study tracked thousands of teens: psychosis symptoms were already rising before they ever tried cannabis!
Adolescent cannabis use is linked to higher psychosis risk, but this may not mean cannabis causes it.
Possible explanations: shared underlying vulnerability, teens using cannabis to self-medicate emerging symptoms, or cannabis itself increasing symptoms.
A large study tracked ~12,000 kids from ages 9–10 into early teens and examined psychosis symptoms before and after any cannabis use.
Symptoms and distress rose in the lead-up to first use (supports self-medication).
Overall: The link appears more tied to pre-existing factors or coping than cannabis directly driving new increases right after initiation.

CBN: Guardian of the Brain Against Aging and Disease?
CBN: A Potent Neuro protectant!
Targeting Mitochondria Cannabinol (CBN), a non-psychoactive compound, directly protects brain cells by targeting mitochondria, blocking oxytosis/ferroptosis—a cell death pathway linked to aging and Alzheimer's.
It balances oxidative stress, regulates calcium, supports energy production, promotes new mitochondria, and activates AMPK for cellular resilience.
This could be huge for neurodegenerative diseases.

CBD dramatically improves memory & thinking problems after traumatic brain injury!
CBD helps protect brain cells (neurons) and improves thinking/memory problems after brain injury by:
Reducing harmful "oxidative stress" (basically cell-damaging rust-like chemical reactions)
Stopping brain cells from dying (apoptosis/programmed cell death)
CBD sticks directly to a protein called SET inside brain cells. This binding causes SET to change shape slightly and get "stuck" in the cytoplasm (the main body of the cell) instead of moving into the nucleus (cell control center).
