It has now been six days since my friend, journalist @shellykittleson, was abducted in Baghdad, Iraq. She is an innocent journalist who should be freed without delay. This act is disgraceful and completely unacceptable.
Keep her in your prayers

Important New York Times investigative report into the kidnappings of Alawi women in coastal Syria, raped, abused and sometimes released for a ransom.
"All of the families that spoke to The Times said they had reported their cases to the security forces. While some dealt with sympathetic officers, many said the security personnel had been dismissive or accused the missing women and girls, without evidence, of using drugs or running away with their boyfriends.
Some security officers told the families of those who had returned to lie about what had happened."

On March 15, 2011, one of the greatest revolutions in history began: the Great Syrian Revolution.
We lived through extremely difficult days, months, and years. We endured relentless bombardment as Bashar al-Assad, Russia, and militias of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used various types of weapons in attempts to kill us, displace us, and destroy our cities. Yet despite all this, the belief remained firm that justice must ultimately prevail over oppression.
Thousands of Syrians made immense sacrifices for freedom and dignity, and many gave their lives in the hope of a better future for their country.
In the end, the people proved that their will cannot be defeated. When a people truly desire life, destiny must respond. The will of the people ultimately triumphed in their great revolution.
We prevailed against oppression, against Bashar al-Assad, Russia, and Iranian militias, and the voice and determination of the people remained stronger than every attempt to sile

My father, Dr Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh, is gradually being murdered before our very eyes due to the inhumane conditions of his imprisonment.
My father is an elderly man, nearly 75 years old. He is being denied his medication, subjected to terrible conditions, and placed in solitary confinement without the most basic necessities. He hasn't been given enough blankets or clothes for five whole days.
This isn't negligence... this is deliberate and direct endangerment of his life. His health is deteriorating, and each passing day brings him closer to real danger.

Loss is of our children’s amputated limbs & lifeless corpses; of our obliterated homes, schools, libraries, hospitals.
It also is a long overdue loss of the once-overarching myths of #Westernvalues & #humanrights.
‘The civilizing mission’ of #Napoleon’s #colonial drive daily is unmasked as a depraved mission to obliterate & exterminate us.
The hypocrisy in this smug Western narrative is nauseating.

On International Women's Day, we honor the Syrian women who have carried Syria through its darkest years.
Syrian women are the ones who held the revolution together when the world wasn't watching. In the earliest days of the uprising, when protesters poured into the streets, Syrian women were there, chanting, organizing, documenting, healing. They ran underground field hospitals and charity networks for families under siege. They co-founded the largest grassroots coalitions of 2011. They picked up cameras and microphones when silence would have been safer. They spray-painted defiance on walls. They fasted and prayed and organized.
They did this while being targeted, arrested, tortured, and disappeared, not despite being women, but often because of it. Over 13,000 women were arrested or forcibly disappeared by the Assad regime between 2011 and 2016 alone. And still, they did not stop.
When the guns got louder, the world stopped telling their stories. But Syrian women never stopped doing the work. They became doctors and nurses in bombed-out clinics. They built schools in liberated areas, trained journalists, opened women's centers, and raised children through the impossible. In the camps like Rukban, in the tents and makeshift homes on the margins of the conflict, women became the ones who held families together, who kept communities alive, who returned to help their neighbors even when they had every reason not to.
Syrian women are revolutionaries. They are nurses and mothers and schoolgirls and protestors and survivors and dreamers. They are the glue that has held Syria together through more than a decade of war, displacement, and loss.
To every Syrian woman: we see you. We honor you. We stand with you.

I would offer that Alex Pretti putting his body—with his hands up—between a woman and the BP agent who had just violently shoved her into the snow, offer stark competing visions of manhood. Pretti, a nurse caring for veterans, who took a face full of pepper spray to shield that woman, is a much better masculine ideal that the masked coward shoving the woman and executing a man on his knees. MAGA may venerate the latter, but most people in a healthy society want the former.

People in Ukraine are starving.
They are freezing.
They are dying.
This isn’t a headline—it’s daily life. Families huddle in the dark with no heat. Parents skip meals so their kids can eat. Elderly neighbors burn scraps to survive the night. Missiles destroy power grids; winter finishes the job.
They need our support—now.
If you can help, please help. If you can’t, share. Silence helps no one.

Ahmed Reunites with His Family After a Decade of Separation.
Ahmed, a young man from the town of Maskanah in the Aleppo countryside, was arrested by Assad’s militias and detained at the Palestine Branch prison, where he was forcibly separated from his family for ten long years.
Today, following the entry of the Syrian Arab Army into the Aleppo countryside, Ahmed has finally been reunited with his loved ones.
After a decade of pain, waiting, and absence, tears of sorrow have turned into tears of joy — a long night has ended, and the warmth of family has returned. This is not just a reunion, but a victory of patience, hope, and the unbreakable bond of home.
