This is not ‘just a football story’ but rather a story of a city-region in northern England aligning its economy into the orbit of an authoritarian state in the Gulf, accused of human rights abuses at home + terrible war crimes in Sudan.

Three articles on #Birmingham
One of the poorest cities in the country. Hit by a manufactured bankruptcy. Now attracting more investments than its competitor Manchester.
3 interconnected processes — extraction, crisis, and poverty are mutually constituted in the city

Is this the vision for Birmingham?
"Thanks to HS2, this region will be just 38 minutes from central London — about Zone 5 on the Tube map,” West Midlands mayor Richard Parker said.

Replying to @LadywoodUnite @BhamCityCouncil
@BerkeleyGroupUK and @BhamCityCouncil have signed an agreement that promises "at least 70% of existing homes will either be refurbished or re-provided" - but this includes in the towers, meaning almost half of those outside the towers are expected to be demolished and displaced.

At midnight, Palestine Action will be proscribed under the Terrorism Act.
Their real “crime”? Exposing the UK’s role in arming Israel’s genocide.
This is a dark day for our democracy.
Criminalising non-violent resistance won’t silence the truth.
We are all Palestine Action 🇵🇸

Voted against the proscription of Palestine Action today. Calling them a terrorist organisation criminalises all their supporters. Deliberate attempt to clamp down on direct action

So, the UK spends roughly the same on benefits for people too unwell to work or who have disabilities as it does on tax breaks that mostly benefit the wealthy saving for retirement. But there’s a crucial difference in who benefits.

8 years.
2,922 days since our loved ones were taken from us.
Still no justice.
Now they're demolishing the Tower. Trying to erase history.
But we will never forget.
Walk with us tonight at the Silent Walk to show those responsible we won't stop until justice is served.

For the past 20 months, UK government ministers — Conservative and Labour — have aided and abetted crimes against humanity.
Recently, some politicians have attempted to backtrack and change their tune. Perhaps they are frightened by the consequences of their complicity.
If they had any integrity, they would weep for the 61,000+ Palestinians who died as a result of their moral and political cowardice.
We will not rest until the government finally listens to the demand being made by millions of people of all backgrounds and faiths: end all arms sales to Israel, now.
Momentum is shifting. We will expose the full scale of UK complicity in genocide. We will bring about justice. And we will continue to campaign for the only path to peace: the liberation of Palestine.
