It's all out in the open now. If China uses force to unify Taiwan, the United States won't help — they simply don't have the capability. In the past, only some professionals knew this, but after the Iran war, most ordinary Americans with an IQ of no less than 80 have realized it too.
However, the CPC is just too obsessed with certainty. They aren't even willing to sacrifice temporary economic growth for Taiwan, or take a 5% risk of China's rise hitting a setback. Instead, they've chosen to use overwhelming hard power and growing soft power to make Taiwan gradually submit to peaceful reunification. It's understandable, but also pretty boring. The only thing that could excite me now is the possibility that China might go to war with Japan — that would be way more thrilling than unifying Taiwan.

The Japanese seem pretty pissed at Russia lately. Now some of them are claiming that the real reason the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb on Japan was because of Soviet expansion—that America felt it had to use the bomb to send a message to the USSR.
Lol. 'Sending a message to the Soviets' was an unimportant concern. The U.S. used the bomb on Japan for three main reasons, plain and simple:
1. Japanese resistance was ferocious, and the Americans didn't want to lose a million men in a land invasion.
2. The Japanese had been utterly brutal, savage, and despicable throughout the war—so Americans felt zero moral qualms about wiping out such an enemy on a massive scale.
3. Americans were racists—they saw the Japanese as subhuman, no better than monkeys in their eyes.
