ALT A chart about Real GDP Growth by quarter shows data Q1 2025 through Q1 2026, plus an advanced estimate for Q2 2026. Notably, GDP had been accelerating Q125-Q325, dipped down in Q4 25, shot up in Q126, and dropped back down again in Q2 26 advanced estimate to below Q3 2025. Real GDP growth slowed to 2.10% YoY in Q2 2026. GDP growth remains positive but does not continue the acceleration seen in Q1. Deceleration of growth in Q2 may be attributed to conditions such as the Iran conflict. Pre-conflict inflation was also already high enough to cause GDP to decelerate. The average GDP growth over the last four quarters is 2.28% YoY. The BEA releases three GDP estimates each quarter; advanced, second, and third. The next will be released Aug. 26.

About 46 million homes sit within the wildland urban interface, where development meets unoccupied land. As this zone expands by roughly 2 million acres each year, more communities face wildfire risk." There is an arrow pointing right at the bottom.

ALT Chart titled “How P&C Insurers Have Capital to Pay Claims: The Past Decade” shows the relatively low levels of underwriting gains the insurance industry makes compared to investment income. Underwriting was only profitable in five of the last ten years, resulting in average loss of $5.1B per year. Over the last 10 years, other industry revenue sources averaged: $63.7B from net investment income, $23.3B from net realized capital gains, $0.9B from fees and other revenues. Carriers allocate most of their income towards policyholders' surplus and assets under management to ensure solvency, including prompt payment of Nat Cat claims.
