A historic night at the @ChineseChurch in London. We gathered to celebrate the launch of ‘Chinese Heritage and British Christianity’ (@SCM_Press)—the first academic volume of its kind to spotlight the voices, stories, and theological reflections of Chinese heritage Christians in the UK.
It was incredibly moving to stand alongside fellow contributors, and even more powerful to be surrounded by so many who came to support, listen, and bear witness to this moment.
In a church that has held generations of Chinese Christian life in Britain, we marked something new: the beginning of a public, published, and theologically grounded conversation about identity, belonging, and calling in this land.
Grateful. Humbled. Hopeful.

Today, we launch Safeguarding Sunday, and there are more ways than ever to get involved!
The theme is 'Action speaks louder'. This year, we’re encouraging churches – and the people in them – to not just talk about safeguarding, but to do something.

This week marks the release of the fifth and final reflection I've written for @StPaulsLondon and this one feels especially significant. It’s titled "The Teapot: Poured out in Love". bit.ly/sacred-remnants
Each of the five reflections explores a different object, a different chapter of life, and a different layer of faith and memory.
The first was about a name chop — a symbol of childhood, of identity, and the questions I began asking early on about who I was and where I belonged.
The second, chopsticks, captured the tenderness of my parents' love — love that was felt more than spoken, in the quiet language of food and care.
The third reflection took a harder turn — slippers — found after my mother died. A small, intimate object that spoke of grief, loss, and memory.
The fourth came in my forties — reflecting on the shoes my father left behind, and the legacy he passed on, prompting me to look both back and ahead.
But it’s this final one — about a calico tea set — that feels most poignant. These delicate cups once belonged to my parents. Now, they’ve been passed into the hands of my children — their grandchildren. In them, I see not only memory, but continuity. This isn’t just about loss. It’s about love passed on. It's about how faith and story live on in the things we keep — and the lives we shape with them.
Each object has marked a decade of my life. And now, with this tea set, it’s not just about the past — it’s about what remains sacred in the present, and what we carry into the future.

This week’s church video includes an unexpected highlight: Rev @marknam reading out a lovely list of birds spotted in our churchyard by one of our congregation members. We’re grateful for all the ways creation blesses us—even if it occasionally gives us the giggles.

The rare text, which was the first Bible written in Chinese, was been dropped off at an Oxfam bookshop in Chelmsford. The book, which dates back to about 1815, was plucked from a pile of donations by volunteers two years ago.
