Check out my op/ed in the @TorontoStar on the impact that the copyright term extension will have on Canadian culture over the next 20 years #copyright #libraries #publicdomainday #publicdomain
The government owes it to the Canadian public to address the harm caused by this.
What seems like a small change to the Copyright Act will have a disastrous impact on Canadian culture over the next 20 years.

Thanks @howardknopf! Glad you could make it.
Mark Swartz from Queen's delivered a great talk yesterday at a TMU event on open access publishing and the commercialization of open access. Very important for the library and educational communities in Canada. Here are his slides. drive.google.com/file/d/1oRh… @markswartz @mgeist

This week, the genetic testing company 23andMe filed for bankruptcy, which means the genetic data the company collected on millions of users is now up for sale. If you do not want your data included in any potential sale, it’s a good time to ask the company to delete it. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/03/ho…

Aaron Swartz would have been 38 years old today if MIT hadn't called the police on him & the federal gov't had not been so keen to prosecute him with threats of jail time so severe, he took his own life in 2013 at the age of 26.
We honor the work of Aaron Swartz today.
