BREAKING - In a week when a record 165 illegal immigrants arrived across the Channel in a ‘mega dinghy’ authorities picked up two migrants on Saturday in a tiny dinghy. They’d spent over 12 hours rowing from France before they were eventually spotted by passing shipping this afternoon. Almost 900 migrants have made the crossing since Andy Burnham became PM.

I am no fan of Refom but every time the @timespolitics @guardian mentions Geroge Cottrell the prefix it with “convicted criminal.”. They must prefix Louie Haigh then with “convicted fraudster.” Not to do so is to show disdain for professional journalism.

There's a phrase I've used for a few years now: "you might not be interested in defence - defence might get very interested in you..." Suspect this applies to the PM...
Keir Starmer simply isn’t taking defence seriously, even in the current climate.
His refusal to set out the Government’s path to spending 3.0% of GDP on defence reinforces Rachel Reeves making the same statement during her Mais lecture last week.
The Treasury is delaying the Defence Investment Plan, due last Autumn, we’re yet to see the Defence Finance and Investment Strategy, due now, or the Defence Infrastructure Recapitalisation plan, due last month.
HMS Dragon has arrived in the Eastern Mediterranean nearly a month after the start of the conflict, just as it appears peace negotiations have started, meanwhile we’ve been reliant upon the US Navy for ballistic missile defence.
Our lack of defence investment is seeing us slip into the bottom tier of NATO spending and we’re struggling to even afford the programmes we’re committed to such as GCAP.
And yet the Government sends ministers out on the media round to gaslight the public that the armed forces have everything they need.

This is a remarkable table. It shows that to all intents and purposes the UK currently doesn’t have a navy it can deploy. It is a national scandal. But, of course, nobody — political or military — will be held accountable, much less sacked.
This is a shocking indictment on the state of the Royal Navy after decades of underfunding. And not a single warship in the Mediterranean or Persian Gulf at the moment.

🇮🇴WATCH: Chagossian First Minister Misley Mandarin has - from the new settlement on the Chagos archipelago - given Donald Trump formal permission to strike Iran from Diego Garcia.
He says: "We, the people of the Chagos Islands, give our blessing for the United States to use the base at Diego Garcia for strikes against the Iranian regime – in defence of the Iranian people."

"Today, I stand not in exile, but on our own soil, as the democratically elected head of government of the Chagos Islands.
Let the world hear this clearly.

For too long, decisions about Diego Garcia were made in distant capitals, without our voice, without our consent. That era is over.
