15 years in IT. Solo builder from Germany 🇩🇪 I build custom software for businesses. Currently trying to reach more local clients. Would be cool to meet other builders doing similar work. What are you working on?

Only a small part of our village got fiber. On paper we count as served, but not much arrives in the house 🙃 Thinking about Starlink. Anyone in Germany happy with it?

I built a field service app for the German market. It covers everything from the work order to the e-invoice. Technicians document on site with checklists, photos and the customer signature. The service report is ready right away and the invoice is created as a ZUGFeRD e-invoice. It also has an MCP server. Your AI assistant can see jobs, schedules and open invoices, and prepare invoice drafts. The app is ready, now it needs the first company that uses it. Would you look for a pilot company or sell the whole app?

This is how I build fast with AI. I plan the whole product upfront and break it into small tasks. The agent builds them, I check the results, add fixes and sometimes the scope grows a bit.

A lot of people here have a product in their bio. I do not. I mostly write about what I build and talk to other builders. No idea yet where this is going, and I am fine with that.

🤫 Build the backend first. Then connect any frontend you want, web or app.

Last week I wrote that booking at local businesses still means phone calls and WhatsApp. So I built online booking for hairdressers, barbers and beauty studios. I started yesterday and finished the first version today. It took about 10 to 12 hours, thanks to my starter.

In Germany, especially in rural areas, lots of businesses barely have a website and hardly use AI. Many would take more jobs, but they cannot find enough people. Software and AI can take work off their hands, so their team gets more done. That is a big opportunity for builders

This is what one post about letters did to my account. Usually I get a few hundred impressions a day, then it was almost 120K. My followers went from 229 to over 400 this week. Thanks for all the replies and insights!
In Germany you cannot just cold email businesses. So I am thinking about sending them real letters.

I have built SaaS and custom software for other businesses. Now I am thinking about what to build next and if I want to do it alone or with others. Working in a team can be fun if everyone takes their part seriously. Anyone else in the same spot?

$5,000 is not too much for software delivered in one week that solves a time-consuming problem.

GPT-6.1 Sol feels token-efficient but a bit weird. I will give Opus 5.5 a try.

A workshop owner can choose from dozens of tools. They still have to compare them, set everything up and get the team using them. Plenty of SaaS already exists. That does not mean every business wants to introduce one on its own. Would they rather pay someone to understand their workflow, build software around it and stay available afterwards? If you build custom software for local businesses: what made your customers choose you over an existing tool?

Customers complain that getting an appointment is a pain. Hairdressers, workshops and other local businesses say they are overloaded. Yet booking still often means phone calls, WhatsApp messages and waiting for someone to call back. Software could take some of that work off both sides. But changing a routine that somehow still works is a big step. If you build for local businesses or run one yourself: what gets in the way? – The price? – The disruption of switching? – Or the last tool that promised less work and delivered more?

I want businesses to spend less time typing up invoices with 20 items, different VAT rates and categories. I built this into my starter: talk it through by voice in your own AI client, have the draft created via MCP, then check the PDF and print or send it. Sending by email can be automated too. Invoicing is one part of that starter. For custom projects, I reuse the foundation and build around what the business needs. Anyone else building custom software for businesses?
