a16z crypto → a16z Frontier. further signal that crypto is no longer the 'emerging tech' golden child with early mover advantage
The biggest risk is not being ambitious enough.

this is how you educate people on markets :)
Was recently at a bar where drinks were dynamically priced, i.e. the more people bought a particular drink, the more expensive it became (price would then decayed over time towards a floor). Fascinating to watch a few market mechanisms play out in a bar: People ventured outside their usual orders in search of cheaper alternatives, often discovering new favorites in the process. Others treated rising prices as signals of quality, happily paying premiums to try expensive drinks they’d never had before. More experienced drinkers behaved like value investors, picking up underpriced drinks they already knew were good while everyone else chased the popular ones. Price discovery, information leakage, herding, and utility trades all unfolded over rounds of drinks. More bars should try this.

Publishing industry infrastructure is incredibly outdated
Imagine doing all the work to prepare and promote your book, and still paying 30-65% of royalties to your self-publishing platform. That’s what millions of authors are doing on Amazon. Our CEO Andrew Baev is talking about the elephant in the room: why this isn’t fair.

this is what I do day-to-day for teams pretty much! and yes — it’s not easy to define, since different people have very different understanding of what marketing and comms are
ive talked to many teams in the past few months who are thinking about this but dont know quite what to call it/have called it everything from brand marketing to comms to storytelling to special projects to content/social 4 high-profile startups in past ~2 weeks have explicitly told me they are stealthily looking to hire for someone in this sort of role these roles are quietly and quickly exploding if your ear is to the ground!!

loved seeing this in my inbox by @andruyeung since my experience confirms this & I'm so glad it does. humans want to work with humans. humans remember kindness towards them. humans pay it forward. and it's just fck awesome to be kind without expecting anything in return.

FYI I took that vocab test and I got 100th percentile. IQ of 160+. Got every single question correct, didn't even spend more than 2 seconds per question, actually. In fact, I know every word. Every single English language word dating back to 1300. All of them. I read dictionaries for fun. I am the wordsmith. I am the one who words. Bow before my superior linguistic intellect.

such a cool idea. it’s super logical your investments must match your beliefs, but for most people it’s a blind gamble

excellent read that also resonates with the thinking behind New Fiction: 1. designers + marketers working together 2. designing machine-readable brand identities 3. creating interactive tools that teams w/o tech and design skills can use independently
4700 word labor of love. I've seen all the patterns and heard every story about in-house brand/creative studio teams. This is my vision for where brand teams can go (and why I joined @tryramp). Brand systems that behave like jazz. Brand as software.

realizing what your coping strategy is (and what you are coping with) can help rewire your daily experience
You aren't addicted TO scrolling/ vaping/ overworking, you're addicted to anesthesia. This is why your attempts to curb addictions require so much willpower
