AI Article Reviews Dominate Human Peer Reviews at Their Best
New research finds that AI-generated article reviews are now better, by every measure te authors could construct, than reviews written by well-compensated human experts and judged to be of unusually high quality by journal editors and authors.
AI is about to revolutionize peer review in academia. My guess is that AI peer review is about to be integrated into most journals (either as a first pass, an assistant to editors, or an additional reviewer to humans).
There are lots of ways this can go wrong, but the review system is collapsing under increased submissions. I'm an editor at a journal were submissions are up 73% over the past year. I can't see a solution to this that doesn't somehow involve AI.
