Steve McManus @CEO_RBFT of @RBNHSFT runs big hospitals - but, like Wes Streeting, he wants to “move the point of delivery upstream, into a more preventative” approach to health built around GPs & community services. Quick thread 🧵1 /8 miphealth.org.uk/home/news-c…

Point 2: McManus is praised by @NHSEngland for improving management, & backs regulating NHS managers - as does Wes Streeting. But he says it must "support the drive for high-quality management and leadership, professionalising it," rather than being used to attack managers. 🧵5

I used to love Twitter's ability to present me with a thousand useful links. Now, the fact that I do this will mean that many of you won't see my post; just another reason to migrate. bsky.app/profile/mattrosswri…

New research by @TheIFS shows govt depts increasingly unable to hang on to great managers or fill empty posts - with many of those exiting citing pay as a big push factor. That has a major impact on the govt's ability to implement policy, reform services or boost efficiency. 3/4

“Humour is a coping mechanism — but also a cry for help” An interview with me ahead of @edfringe @theSpaceUK. Why doctors laugh inappropriately, why we need a more humane and effective means of compensation after medical errors and why @UKLabour will be better for our health, albeit gradually. miphealth.org.uk/home/news-c…

“If you don’t have the right staff on a plane, it’s not allowed to leave the runway — but the NHS has to take off with a load of demented patients, half a wing missing and a hole in the fuselage every day,” @drphilhammond tells @MiPhealth 🧵 miphealth.org.uk/home/news-c…

Labour is making the right noises on public health, mental health and social care, says @drphilhammond, and must act quickly to boost morale: “Improving the offer to staff is the most fundamental thing. We’ve got to make the NHS a decent place to work.”
