Remember when people thought spin rate was ultra important so radar gun manufacturers came out with guns that measured spin rate for nearly $1000 more? Simpler times.

Recruiting 101: 2027 Family calls me - we discuss the process with their son. ‼️Son: “Dan my top 10 are these schools.” 🙏Me: “that’s great, I actually support your list. You follow all of the coaches from the 10 teams on X right? Filled out their recruiting questionnaires? And you’ve emailed them your info(metrics, academics/transcript, videos, what you’re interested in studying, etc)?” 🤪Son: “wait, I should email them all of that? And no, I haven’t followed the coaches, just the program accounts.” ‼️If you’re all in - BE all in. Do all of the necessary “things”‼️ ✅Follow the entire staff on X - can’t find them? Google their name + Twitter account ✅Fill out their Recruiting Questionnaire ✅Introductory email to the entire staff - transcript attached/video included ✅Research the schools - academics / YouTube campus tour / financials / previous years performances / where the coaches have coached before ✅Do they have a camp coming up @OTRSports_ streamlines this for you….. Questions? Text me - 2152757667

The HS to college jump isn't just more work. It's a total loss of environmental control. In HS someone scheduled the lifts, mom stocked the fridge, practice ended and food was waiting.

One of the most tiresome debates in sports is the multi-sport athletes in high school debacle. I’ll preface it by saying a kid should play whatever he wants and it’s the families choice. If your goal is to play college sports then your goal should be really good at the sport you want to play, regardless of the other sports you play. I played basketball in middle school and was going to play in high school but I realized I stunk at basketball and while i thoroughly enjoyed playing I knew being a bad basketball player was not going to help me achieve my goals despite people telling me it was a great sport to develop athleticism that will help me with baseball. So I stopped playing. A college coach’s job is to win. They are not recruiting athletes who they believe will not help their program. No one is looking at a pitcher and saying this junior is topping at 78 but he is on the football, basketball, and soccer team so let’s recruit him. What they are saying is if this kid throws 90+ and is on the football, basketball, and soccer team we are getting a good athlete in addition to a great arm. But the only reason he is being recruited is because he is talented at the sport they recruit. Bottomline is very simple: You want to be a college athlete be very good at the sport you want to play in college. If you can be very good at it and balance other sports, that is magnificent and should continue to do what you want. If you want to play a college sport and are mediocre at it and play other sports in the different seasons instead of prioritizing training or developing in the sport you want to play then you are limiting your chances of success. I once had a coach in pro-ball make a tongue in cheek statement to a teammate after he was bragging about his HS football days: “Those 11 touchdowns certainly didn’t help you hit an inside fastball.” Results are all that matter.

I spent 100s of hours grinding out manual labels this summer so that we can measure command! How? By measuring the distance between the catcher's target VS where the ball landed. There's more to come, but here's 10 pitches from the All-Star Game: (📽 @MLBONFOX)

Ugly scene happening in college baseball right now after the draft. Players being cut a week before arriving on campus due to expected draft picks not being selected. Parents and players beware! Go where you are wanted #FindTheFit

This August we will start building out one of the most advanced hitting labs in the country. Not only will we be able to collect upstream data (Mocap, force plates, bat signal tracking) but extreme detailed ball flight and outcome based metrics.
