I've been off for a bit so am catching up on EU-China trade war - here's what we missed: A negotiating team led by Denis Redonnet is in Beijing this morning for talks with Ling Ji at Mofcom. Online talks through Aug delivered no major breakthroughs A timeline of what changed:

SCOOP - The US is asking NATO allies for public ideological loyalty to Trump's policies as a factor in the ongoing review of US troops stationed in Europe. I've seen a document in which the US asks allies a series of unusual questions - sample questions and link below 1/2

NEW: Documents reviewed by @business show that deep inside Russia’s war machine, the economic pain is real and the situation for many firms is deteriorating fast. The industry association in Nizhny Novgorod set out a litany of troubles facing companies in a letter, assessment and survey - all reviewed by @business - sent to a top regional official earlier this month, asking for help as it highlighted a sharp fall in investments, profits, orders and production amid a massive rise in borrowing costs and overdue payments. The situation is described as one of "serious concerns" with several firms now operating in "critical conditions", facing job cuts and depleting reserves. Not one civilian firm recorded a rise in order compared to a year ago - and the struggles are seeping into Russia's military industrial complex too.

Trump putting out all sorts of numbers in combined European purchases of energy, investment and military gear. If my maths serve me right, he tallies close to one trillion with no time context. Note the single element confirmed by both is the 15% rate.
